08/09 Rookies that have potential

I was wondering what rookies you guys thought have the most potential to be a star next year? Im looking to pick up some cards of someone. They dont have to be the really well known players that cards are really expensive.

James Neal, he was second in rookie goals this year I believe, and the Stars will have a big year this year if the injury bug does not bite again. His stuff is very cheap for the numbers he put up, if he would've been on the Stars in 07/08 his stuff would've been much more.

Yeah, I actually know who he is. I remember seeing him play in the Rookie All Stars Game thing. Theres also his teammate Fabian Brunnstrom.

Thanks for your input.

Derrick Brassard was on a hot streak until he got injured. Oh and obviously Bobby Ryan who had the most points amongst rookies despite getting the call up 20 games into the season (his rookies are in 07/08 though).

Brassard was great, until he messed with Ott last year, he's pretty cheap for what he was doing.

Along with some of the guys mentioned up thread: Kris Versteeg, TJ Oshie, and Kyle Okposo should be considered. This guy will be a third year player next year, but David Perron is very, very good.

Oscar Moller hasn't been mentioned. He or other King players will be doing well next year.Team is building into a contender. As long as players stay healty, watch out for the KINGS !!

Since some more obvious names are being named...

Simeon Varlamov and Zach Bogosian. Bogosian has a pretty good shot of becoming a superstar and Varlamov was excellent down the stretch in net for Washington. They could both be something.

Jakub Voracek has a nose for the net like a young Pavel Bure.

MikeDtonation 06-23-2009 09:52 AM

Have to say Nikita Filatov, but don't touch his cards I'm collecting him. lol.

FlyerGuy22 06-23-2009 01:16 PM

Giroux will put up a ton of points next year.

crosbyandmalkin 06-23-2009 02:40 PM

The question is are you looking for rookies that will end up making you money in the future or are you just looking to follow a young star's career as it unfolds?

stamkos will be a great player when he grows in the nhl

ilovethelakings 06-25-2009 09:54 AM

I would go with an up and coming d-man then. In the long run, their cards end up being cheaper in the long run. Superstar defensivemen usually don't book for too high, even if they have had a stellar career. Just look at Brian Leetch, Chris Chelios, and Al MacInnis. They are all great players whose cards are usually ultra cheap compared to the superstar forwards and goalies who played at the same time.
