Six Gun Gorilla #1
I picked this up today, just loved the cover and the concept of a giant monkey with guns in the old west. The problem is, it's not the old west, it's a future set in the west. It's actually a Sci-Fi type story told in a western setting and I found the first issue to be pretty deep and action packed and I'm totally on board for issue #2.
it's not a funny book, it's not satire, it's pretty straight forward, you know other than a giant monkey with guns, but he's not in the 1st issue much, but you'll know when he appears as he's not afraid to use his guns! And how! Anyway, highly recommended for any sci-fi lovers out there in Junkieville.

Picked up two copies today from the LCS. What I expected and what actually happened were VERY different about this book, and I think that was a GREAT thing. Makes me appreciate the cover of the book now, too. The dialogue was good between the characters, too. The conversations in the beginning really made me think it was a pure Western, but when they make their exit I had a "wait...what the..." moment. (nice one Spurrier!) Stokely's pencils look awesome in the book and he draws one mean gorilla!
I'm on board for issue #2! "creator unknown" (what does it mean???) Getting good reviews too: IGN rates it at 9.6 Adventures in Poor Taste rates it a 10 CBR gives it 3.5 stars (recommends reading it!)

I remember Indy posted a video of the writer talking about the book and he mentioned that the idea came to him after looking at an early 20th century cartoon of a Gorilla with a gun, or something to that liking.
Anyway, maybe that's where the "creator unknown" thing comes from. Most people would take credit for it as an original concept, so that's admirable--that is, if i'm understanding this whole thing correctly. Does it say that on the cover? |

I had a good time reading this book. The dialog is a little thick with all the twang in it but it loosened up after a few pages. Enjoyed being slightly challenged and the it really drew me in. Wasn't familiar with Stokely's art but am looking forward to more.

Yeah, IGN agrees with me. - Six-Gun Gorilla #1 is a stunning debut; a science-fiction epic that will leave you begging for more.

Another great pick Indy
Thanks Indy's for another great pick. I was able to pick up a few copies at LCS. Read it and enjoyed it. The 1st issue was fast paced but explained clearly the background of story and characters. Futuristic Reality TV combined with Civil War, last ditch volunteers and a mysterious sharp shooting gorilla with double six guns. Truly looking forward to next issue to see how this story plays out. The art matched the writing very nicely.

Got this is the mail yesterday. The virgin cover is pretty sweet. Also...it kinda looks like a view of the beach on the glass lenses...
