Updated through here--thanks again!

By the way, if you are looking at reaching artists or just for some good sketch card related reading, I recently discovered the Sketch Card Fanatics group on Facebook. It's very active and there's been some interesting posts so far.

Here’s the list of artist that I have done commissions, purchased APs/returns from. I’ve included eBay purchases but only if they were directly from the source. I’m not one to get caught up in bashing someone because of lack of communications or shipping delays. I know plenty of eccentric personalities who may be brilliant in their given trade, but lacking in other areas – for this reason as long as the art is delivered as promised, and meets my expectations they get a good score. Knock on wood I’ve been pretty lucky so far!

Well, I've got a few:

Sara Richard: +, +, +, +
Charles Hall: + (Torn on this one. Communication/time= poor. Did I eventually get a centerpiece= yes.)
Claire Pacheco: +
Rhiannon Owens: +

Artists I have initiated contact with and have had various levels of communication with:
Anthony Tan: Excellent communication - hard as hell to get a spot on an AP when people are commissioning 9 card monsters and you want (can afford) only one. :/
Katie Cook: Never returned communications.
Stacy Kardash: Great communication.

I'm sure there are a few I'm missing, but that about sums it up right now.

-------------
1-11-13 - UPDATED - Changed 'Pending' on Sara Richard to another '+'. Received scan of most recent AP from M.Bronze Age

You'll have to give us more than that! Otherwise you are going to get recommendations for everybody with a '+' in the second post Style, media, etc?

My favorite local artist, Mina Sanwald, is a big fan of the bat and does a great job with Batman characters (sample 1, sample 2). She works primarily with Copic markers - so if that is what you are looking for, I suggest her. If you want something done with oil paints, Charles Hall is probably your man. I haven't worked with him, but he is on the '+' list. If you want something that is more photo-realistic of Scarecrow from Batman Begins, I'm sure somebody can give you a sweet reco. Sara Richard is great to work with and does amazing stuff, but she has a very distinct whimsical style that might not be what you are looking for.

Thanks. The Charles Hall sketch style is the one I'm looking for. Thanks a bunch.

I contacted Kevin John and commissioned a Britney Spears sketch since I own a few of his from Leaf from the National. He was easy to contact and got back to me asap. Reasonable prices. I will post once I recieve the card.

Axebone and Nar are wonderful, but they are probably booked solid nowadays. If they ever open commissions in the future, they have my highest recommendation.

Especially if you have about $1k to spend on a commission. I politely thanked (Nar's assistant - he doesn't have time to deal with customers) for their time and moved on.

*** Also updated my previous artist ranking post to reflect another Sara Richard AP that is completed from Marvel Bronze Age. Awaiting approval but I have a scan that I cannot post until approved.

Still waiting on my Veronica O'Connell commission. Sent payment and heard back but no progress report yet. I am patient though, I can't wait to see how the card turns out!

Here are my experiences so far:
Ted Dastick Jr: Very quick turn around, good communication and great work. +

Joe St Pierre: Good communication and amazing work. +

Charles Hall: 2 APs completed. Both look great but one took him 4 months to ship after it was completed. The other AP he shipped out right away. Bad communication but great artist. +

NAR!: He does the best sketches hands down. If you can afford to get a commission from him, do it! +

Frank Kadar: Several PSC's completed from Frank. He has great communication and did some amazing sketches for me. Highly recommend. +

Joe Simko: Great communication and super fast turn around. Also did a great job on the AP! Highly recommend. +

Chris Foreman: He recently completed an AP with 5 characters on one card. He completed it within 2 weeks and got it to me right away. Recommend for sure. +

Noah Salonga: Great communication and super fast turn around. Also did a great job on the AP! Highly recommend. +

I commissioned a Walking Dead sketch by Bob Stevlic. Started it on January 2nd, said he'd have out before end of the month. Will post a scan when I get it. He's really reasonable for PSC's, very good communication, and super nice to talk to.

some artists sell already done pieces - pscs and even completed APs (already approved)- on ebay
so that is one avenue to skip long commission wait times

Just got in my first commission piece. Being new to all this, I just went on ebay and found one from an artist for a reasonable price.

Rich Hennenemann did this for me. You can find him on ebay under inkwashart. He was very friendly and easy to work with. I paid on Jan 1st and he shipped it to me on Jan 7th! Most important I LOVE the piece!!

Looks much better in person, took with a camera phone. You can see more of his work here:
Mixed Media Comic Commissions by RichHennemann - Blog - GeekDraw

Already ordered 2 more commission from him.
