Sale will catch one eventually. I'm excited to watch him in October.

Kluber unanimous at this point? Unless Severino keeps rolling of course.

Postseason success is just as important as a Cy Young award on a potential Hall of Fame resumé down the line as far as Sale goes.

Personally I think Sale will kick it into another gear we've never seen from him and absolutely dominate once the playoffs start. He's a competitor and those games will be the biggest ones he's ever pitched in.

Severino can roll wherever he wants. He doesn't deserve a single first place vote.

Tell you what.

Provide one single reason why Severino deserves a 1st place vote over Kluber. Any stat, reason, hypothesis ... why should someone vote Severino first.

I contest there isn't one.

Like I said, wait until the end of the season and maybe I will.

Basically, it would take Kluber imploding and Severino throwing a shutout or two in order for Severino to get even a single first place vote. Do you think that will happen?

Is it a 100% certainty either way at this point?

It's definitely not, but we're not talking certainly ... we're talking likelihood. I'm saying it will take at least one, if not two, CG shutouts ... plus a Kluber implosion ... in order for Severino to get any first-place votes. Sevy has already thrown WAY more innings and pitches this season than any season in his minor/major league career. He hasn't gone more than 7 innings in a game since April (EDIT: May). I would expect he won't throw more than 100 pitches in a game between now and October.

You suggested Severino could steal a few first place votes, and I simply want to know how.

Kluber has 3 starts left. Severino has 3. Give Severino 24 shutout innings with a ridiculous 40K. Absolutely nothing changes.

Severino has an outside chance at #2. Very outside. But there is no logical reason of any kind to vote him ahead of Kluber no matter what happens the last three starts of the season.

Honestly cnewby, you should be excited about Severino coming out of nowhere and likely getting his first top-5 CY. It's impressive.

What if Kluber goes All Jon Lester on us with starts of- 2/3 innings, 10 runs and 1 2/3 innings 9 runs? Then that ERA gets very close to Severinos, Innings are a toss up, slight K Lead.

But yea, gonna be hard to not finish top 2 for Kluber

The odds of that happening are like one in a trillion.

Jon Lester may be the only human being capable of putting up those numbers twice in one season. It's really quite an accomplishment to be that bad.

It's the same argument that Judge with three weeks left could win MVP with a torrid stretch. What evidence is there to suggest it can happen?

Same with Kluber. Chances KC lights him up next week in Cleveland? Again, anything is possible but there's nothing to suggest it will happen.

How about his first half of the season? Is that evidence enough?

....not saying it's going to happen of course. But there's EVIDENCE that it could.

I think if Kluber hadn't missed a month, he'd be the favorite right now, but it'll be tough to displace Sale based on the full season he's had.

I haven't followed the NL race nearly as closely (for obvious reasons), but it looks like it's Scherzer's to lose, no?
Kluber wins going away. SAme amount of wins, lower ERA, 20k's less and less than 20 inning dif. Sale is experiencing dead arm. Cleveland is too hot. GO KLUBER GO
