Wasn't expecting anything today. It turns out I got a return from someone I sent to back in January:
Thank You, Mr. Raymond. |

Wow, that looks great! Love the vertical signature! You're slowly chipping away at that set, nice job!

Got this former All Star back:
Didn't realize a hole was in the card until after I bought this. Thank You, Mr. Burgmeier. |

Holy Burgmeier! (Sorry, couldn't resist...).
Very nice as always! I always waffle on the 73's, I can never decide if they are cheesy 70's good or they are cheesy 70's bad. But the 69's... All good!

Thanks. That's the 1972 set, not 1973. It's all good though.

Doh! My bad. I get my early 70's mixed up. I mean, it was the 70's! Like I was in any condition to remember the details...

A pretty accomplished day for me:
These are my first ever returns from the 1956 Topps set. Negray was the first starting pitcher for the Dodgers following their move to Los Angeles during Spring Training in 1958. If you can look closely, that isn't Moran's actual 1965 Topps. He included that along with the 1962 Topps I sent him. It seems like he's proud of the All Star accomplishment. It's hard to blame him, since he was actually the starting second baseman for the American League that year, ahead of eventual AL MVP runner up Bobby Richardson. Smith is my first 1955 Bowman return since Jim Robertson back in April. Thank You, Mr. Negray, Mr. Small, Mr. Moran, Mr. Pless and Mr. Smith. Thank You all for looking. |

This man didn't have the most impressive baseball career. His academia, however, is something to marvel at. He holds multiple degrees and used to be president of Jacksonville University:
Thanks, Mr. Brady. |

I'm very disheartened over today's returns:
Here's the story on this one. I sent Mr. Garagiola his donation fee and a 1952 Topps base set card. Not a reprint, the actual card from the base set. I was able to get one for my birthday and it was a very low priced 1952 base card compared to the other Gargiola's I've seen on there. He wrote on my letter: "The envelope you sent was empty - I included one of the cards I give to baseball people." I wanted that 1952 Topps card signed so badly. I have a small scatter of cards signed in that set and I know there aren't too many out there anymore who are still with us. Gargiola is one of the very few. I'm 99.99% sure I sent that card to him and I tried looking for it just now on my desk. It's not there. Did someone at USPS steal it? I appreciate him giving me a signature, but this is like Aeneas Williams all over again. It may be even worse. Thank You, Mr. Garagiola, Mr. Speake and Mr. Crimian. |

It could be, but seems odd that someone would go to the trouble. I guess the mailman sees quite a bit of fan mail at his house, but why not just take the whole letter? Stinks either way. Sorry this happened, bud. Of course it had to be a 60 year old card that got lost, not a common from 1992, right?
Hope you get a second chance at it.

What a difference 24 hours makes. It looks like he did receive my card after all:
This is my 9th signed card from the 1952 set. He also sent me a letter with a Diamondbacks logo on the front, saying: "My thanks for your most thoughtful letter. I signed the card and am happy to send back your $10.00. You sound like a great fan and I wouldn't do it to a Cub fan anyhow. Thanks again for taking the time to write. Keep rooting (watching?) baseball and especially the Cubs. I was a Cub for a short time and was proud to be part of the Cub organization. Good luck - Joe." This has to be one of my favorite returns in all of my years of doing this. It was very generous. From the bottom of my heart, Mr. Garagiola, Thank You. |

Wow, what a turn of events. Glad to hear it all worked out. Amazing return and an even better story and note. Congrats!

Awesome return . When i was really into collecting cards, the 1952 set was the king of the vintage sets, along with T206, and 1936 or 39 Gouldy. So to get any cards in the 52 set signed, is great. Love the note too. I got a baseball back from him signed a few months back, and he wrote a short note to me replying back from the letter I sent him. I love getting the notes back from the players. Got a few back so far. Earlier this year Garagiola wasnt doing so well, but Im glad to see that he must be doing a bit better if he is returning some TTMs. |
