Thanks but I'll probably just keep it as is with SGC. They are one of the big 3 Authenticators so i definitely trust them.

WOW! That's totally SICK. and. AMAZING.

If I had to put money on it, I'd say it's fake, though. Looks like they used the same patches in each window.

As long as you enjoy it, I guess it doesn't matter, though!

I don't have any reason to believe that this card has been altered/tampered with fake patches. They used A LOT of logo patch pieces in this set and having the card AUTHENTICATED by one of the best companies out there assures myself that it is the real deal. Thanks though for your thoughts!

A private Griffey collector has several ones from this set with similar logo patch pieces in the card and he believes it is the real deal. It's really hard to dispute being the card was AUTHENTICATED but everyone has their own thoughts on it. Thanks!

Exactly my point. I've also never even heard of SGC or their authentication.

But like I said, as long as you're happy, who cares what we think.

The card was authenticated, not the patch.

Don't know how many times that needs to be said.

Yep, you're right! They are called Sportscard Guaranty, LLC and they grade and Authenticate sports cards just like BGS and PSA. I think people don't know as much about them as the other two companies but they are legit and I'm sure that they are good at determining if a card is authenticate or not. They were recently in New York at a sports card show grading cards on-site and that is where this card was authenticated at. I guess their new holders for patch cards are supposed to be very nice with a black insert. Once I get the card I will know what I think of it. Thanks everyone so far for their thoughts!

Here is a another "nice logo patch" from that set sold by the same seller.

2009 ULTIMATE EVAN LONGORIA SUPER PATCH LOGO /35 AMAZING PATCH LOGO TEMPA RAY | eBay

Here is another similar card that was sold on eBay back in 2010.

09 ULTIMATE COLLECTION EVAN LONGORIA PATCH 18/35 (08/21/2010)

The patches are no where near the same quality.

On of (or both) of them are fake.

SGC is what a lot of people prefer for vintage stuff.

People are correct though that what these grading companies authenticate is the card itself and not the patch. People are are very good now at putting fake patches in cards. I've seen cards that sold on Ebay (serial numbered cards) that show back up a few months later (same serial number) but with a "L@@K!! SUPER SICK!! ZOMG" patch that is "authentic" because of being graded.

Hope it turns out legit for you man.

Pretty card but unfortunately pretty fake/altered also. Your card is authenticated by SGC, NOT the patches.

I have witnessed crazy logo patches from that same set (of cal ripken jr) being pulled, so it is possible. here are examples I found (although neither of these is the card I saw pulled, they are very similar)...

edit: the above picture links are quirky, here are the worthpoint listings just in case they show up as broken links

Exactly my point! UD did come out with a lot of crazy patches in their 09 ultimate product so having a card like mine is definitely not out of the question! Thanks!

The major difference being the numbering.
While I tend to agree with the others that you've been duped,
I'd really like that opinion to be wrong, for the sake of your thousand dollars.

you also have to remember, these are actual game-used jerseys and don't come as easy as those basketball/football rookie premier "event-used" jerseys where they can have 20 jerseys (and 40+ logo patches) from each player. cutting up a griffey gamer means only 1 or 2 logo patches and so those patches can only be allocated to a handful of cards. that can be a reason why some of the cards in this print run have number/letter patches and others have logo patches. just a thought.

Another thing to add, the only time that I ever see people get Patch cards Authenticated is when A) They believe they are Fake (and think authenticating it guarantees it's real), or B) They faked it and had it authenticated (to deceive people who believe that authenticating it guarantees it's real)

OUCH!
I would have done a little bit of cross referencing before dropping that kind of coin on a card. The other Griffey cards in the series look NOTHING like that one.

One of the Rays top dog executives requested and recieved all of Longoria's World Series gamers..These are both extremely fake.

OP-A few of us Griffey guys have discussed this card,we all also believe...it's fake.

If it's to good to be true....

Incredible as those cards are, it's also the reason why I stopped collecting UD products all together after 2009 Goodwin. The Ultimate and Exquisite line, which are stunning in my opinion, are all too often altered. I'm no expert and I do not own any cards from the line (except a single, dual signatue card, no patch), but with the volume of cards that HAVE been altered, it's seemingly high risk to buy these cards IMO. Even as a card collecting community, BO and several other forums, have very intelligent and sharp collectors that can call this stuff out in a heart beat.

I find it easier to simply "stay away."

To the OP, yes, that Griffey is sick and I hope it's 100% authentic.

But when I see a thread like this pop up on occassion, I keep asking myself, "Do some of the collectors here not recognize who the card manufacturer is?"

It's Upper Deck.

Ran by some dudes who have in the past (and probably still continues to do so), back door so many things AND illegally do things (case in point Konami), and run up prints to make more money (again, probably back doored) -the point I'm trying to make is, what IF the card is legit, but trickled out of the UD office some how?

I am aware that in all liklihood, the card was altered.....but I also believe there are cards out there that Upper Deck themselves put out. Although the finger never points to them, I'm SURE they have VERY good relationships with certain sellers and they've had business lunches more than once.....

Conspiracy!
