Inherited a bunch of old coins
I've recently inherited a large quantity of coins.
All foreign currency, poorly labeled other than by country in envelopes. Every country you can imagine...from Brasil to Germany to Cuba to Peru and everything in between. Hundreds and hundreds of coins. Some are VERY old (there's a Mexican coin marked 1784), while some are only from the 1940-50s. I've never collected coins and just want to get these looked at by someone educated who won't rip me/my family off. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance! |

I don't know much about foreign coins but some of the ones Pre 1960's I have are made of silver so might want to find a dealer that is trustworthy to help you out local.

I agree with Braves fan. Some of the older foreign issues contained silver, which would bring extra value.

Your Mexican coin from 1784 is Spanish (it should be Charles the IV on that one) and will be majority silver. These coins aren't terribly rare, but they do have a little value being 8 reales (likely, just guessing). I can help identifying your coins if you need any help.

Thanks guys, really appreciate it. Some are labeled (poorly, but gives me a head start), but it's so tedious Google-ing and trying to play detective for what must be thousands of coins. I might post some pix this week. A little gunshy to walk into a coin shop and "hope" not to get ripped off

Just a quick scan of some coins from the "Poland" envelope (they are all sorted by country).
While 90% are just loose, some are kept like this so they've been easier to research. These Polish coins are silver and pretty cool. These are all from 1936 except the one on the top left is from 1933. Thanks for looking I'll try to scan more soon |

It's nice to see some Zlotych pop up once and a while. The mustachioed gentleman on those would be one Józef Piłsudski, the genius behind the Poles' victory over the Red Russian invasion in 1921 and the nominal leader of the 2nd Polish Republic until his death in 1935.
I'd be interested in those as I have zero Polish coins in my collection.

BIG thanks to those who have reached out with advice and info. REALLY appreciate it!
Of the research I've done online these seem like a couple of the more valuable ones I've found so far. Going to throw them on a popular auction site and see what happens |

Does the one that says 1288 on it mean it's from that year? That'd be an old coin Cool stuff

1288 in Arabic Years corresponds to 1871 in this case, kinda confusing, had to get used to it researching coins at the Coin/Bullion company I work for.
