Default Just picked up two awesome boxes of cards (1998 MJx & SPx Finite)!

I'm really excited to have just bought these two boxes of cards. I should receive them by the end of the week. Has anyone got any experience of busting these products? Or does anyone know which hits I should be looking out for? I need to find some box breaks to see what I've got myself in for here. They were spur-of-the-moment purchases!

Yeah I had that problem once before. I bought dozens of packs of late 1990s Z-Force (amongst other cards) and some of the cards stuck together. However, it caused barely any problems to the surface and obviously the cards came out pack fresh so the corners were perfectly sharp.

SPX!

That's a great box and usually go for big bucks...

The RC's numbered to 25 would be amazing! Also, the 1/1's of course, but they're rare to pull. I would say any low numbered Jordan card would be cool. I wouldn't mind a Carter RC/2500 or the Radiance/1500. Spectrum/25 would be out of this world.

GL with the breaks, can't wait to see what you get.

I just looked up the sale prices on eBay and found one box of each in the Completed Sales listings:

SPx Finite: $355
MJx: $435

It's going to be difficult deciding whether to i) bust the boxes, ii) stash them away, or iii) sell them.

I'm not a big fan of busting boxes but the price was right so I snapped them up. I've been in this dilemma before and sold some of the packs and opened the rest. I broke even but could have made a profit by selling all of the packs.

Thanks for the info! That's really useful. I was only 16 years old in 1998, so I couldn't afford products like this back then so I didn't pay much attention to them.

If I decide to open the boxes, I will definitely let you know if I pull that card.

Yeah, I got them for a lot less than the prices quoted above.

I think I'll probably end up selling one of the boxes and keeping the other. Or maybe just sell both of them and using the money for something for my PC or towards my holiday this summer (I'm driving Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles with my girlfriend).

There are two ways to look at it then. For me, I would probably bust them because it is just hard to resist and a lot more fun lol. Plus you don't have that much invested into them, so you wouldn't be losing much even if they were duds. There are some BIG possibilities in those boxes.

But selling them is the for sure thing, just not as fun and you never know what's in there.

All depends how much you paid for them... to be honest, I would probably sell them both. The odds of pulling something good is very high. At least for the Spx, don't know about the other product, but Jordan being the talk of the town, i'd sell them both now while you can make some good money on them. Again, depends how much you paid for them. If you paid hald the going rate, I would sell them both.

Good advice.

I know one thing: It's going to cause me a big headache trying to decide what to do!

I bought an Exquisite box for only $400. I was going to re-sell, but I was too weary that someone would open a case saying it was re-sealed, after they open it and aren't happy with their pulls (unless they pulled something great, then they wouldn't say anything!)

So I opened it, and hit a Kobe triple patch /10.

Good luck with what you decide to do!

Just know that the longer old cards sit in packs/boxes the more of a chance that moisture will cause the surfaces to stick together!

I would sell them but that is just me, I'm not much of a risk taker at all, but if you do end up busting them I would love to see the results.

I thought all of the RCs from 1998-99 SPX were inserted as a box topper pack in 1998-99 Upper Deck Series II Hobby Boxes due to the lockout. So I doubt you will find Dirk or Carter. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Never heard of that... but you might be right. Anybody know this for sure?

If this is true, I would definitely sell. Even if you do get the RC's in packs, i'd still sell. Find out more about that other box though. Even still, i'd sell them both, a lot of money to be made to buy something nice.

I'm pretty sure if he was opening these that he would not be chasing Vince Carter and Dirk RCs. There are some big time Jordan's in these.

It is right. The rookies are in a box topper pack in UD Series 2.

From beckett: "In addition, cards of rookies were inserted into boxes of Upper Deck 2 in two-card packs"

This was due to the lockout

I wouldn't trust beckett... but not saying it's wrong, but hard to believe. Because the RC's are numbered to 2500, then the Radiance to /1500, so were there 10,000,000 boxes? These cards are all serial numbered, down to the base, which is numbered to 10,000 for the hghest numbered one.

Plus, did ALL these topper packs include rookie cards, or you can "find them" in certain packs? If so, then there are 50 Million boxes!! haha

I think the boxes were very limited, so just hard to believe.
