Default How bad is PSA going to ding me here?

So here's the question. The front of these 1961 Fleer cards are gorgeous, however they were kept in phot albums and the BACK is what I'm concerned with. They were kept in little frames in an album for 55 years and have now been taken out and as you can see have faded or oxidized of some sort on the corners where they were framed. You can see what the colors were on the back corners compared to the rest of the back...

The card fronts are pack fresh and quite stunning, sharp corners, amazing color, etc...thoughts on the discoloration and how PSA will interpret it?

man, its hard to say

but honestly, it doesnt matter

whatever "assigned" grades they are given, will be some of the finest examples for that assigned grade

holy heck those are nice

I can't help much you but my guess is it would be -1 or -2 grades from what it would be without the stains.

I'm so jealous of these vintage NBA cards you have acquired. FWIW I'm a buyer whenever you get those back from PSA

Take a look at the PSA guidelines... it tells you where cards would fall that him staining and/or other issues. I feel like it may be on the 6 or 7 level

Wow those look amazing, pack fresh indeed. I just hope they don't get a min size, Russell, Wilt, to a lesser extent Big O look short to me. You might measure those before you send them, if they are short I would think about going with SGC to get them into holders.

Wow - great find.

I would guess the fading would drop them to the 5-6 range but its on the back so you might get into the higher end of receiving half grades. The better centered ones might pull 7's+ though.

I wouldn't be surprised if they come back as low as a 3. I can't see them getting higher than a 5. This is based on my experience. Hopefully for you they come back better, but as someone above said, they will probably be among the nicest for their grade. PSA usually is extremely harsh for these type of things.

This is my concern. It's tough to label what the situation with the backs of these cards are...There are not stained. They were just put in a photo album for almost 60 years and kept shut. Maybe Oxidized or discoloration are better words to describe the back, whatever the case is, the back of the cards seemed to react to whatever they put on photo albums that keep your photos in place......but either way I am expecting PSA to be brutal (as they usually are). I am hoping nothing as low as a 3, but I have learned grading vintage singles can be a tough game...well send em off and hope for the best..

thanks for everyones input

Wow those look amazing. Do you know any chain smokers? you could always leave them in a chain smokers house for a year to make the backs look consistently yellowed

PSA 3-5 area. The stains hurt bad. Still will have great eye appeal. Just a nasty funky stain on the back.

I get what you're saying but they are still stained because those corners were kept concealed and were not able to properly age like the rest of the surfaces of the card. Think of patina. Its like that. Call it what you want, but its a serious flaw.

These honestly may sell better raw on ebay, and will be cheaper since you don't have to slab. Simply take straight forward, clear pictures and list those bad boys. I'm guessing you gross more that way than with a bunch of psa 3's and psa 4's especially when you add in grading costs.

On ebay buyers can return anything they want at anytime (for the most part). Ebay always sides with buyers. Its the chance you take. I would personally consign these raw to probstein and have him take clear front and back pics and let them roll at auction. They would sell for a mint. A lot more than psa 3's-5's.

Or send to Brent's doctor first and you can turn 4s into 7s.

Those still look great raw. It is more difficult selling vintage raw though. Personally, I would be ecstatic to have those in my collection. I may lean toward SGC if grading.
