Wow! I would have been all over that set!

This is the problem with these types of products. If they aren't marketed in several different forums, they might be missing out on some serious buyers.

You guys see this stunning AP on the bay by Mr Kezele!?

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link, so I stole the picture:

We thought of doing a Gods and Demons set at first, along with the various mythology themes. We noticed a couple had already been announced or were in the works so we decided to wait. I think it would be really cool with all the ancient gods in various cultures, so we might revisit the idea once some time has passed.

We also considered sets about Roman times, realistic future civilizations (basically taking the idea of 1950's art showing their thoughts of what 2000 will look like, but going from now to 2050 or whatever), and possibly getting an auto manufacturers license and have sketches of the history of their car designs. We've got a whole board full of stuff we'd like to try! Some are really out there

Yes and no - I made a killing on Mythology and simply listed them on ebay like always. But you do have to be all over all the forums to sniff some of these releases out. the BO non-sports forum has exploded in the last four or five months - before then, this was not the place to go for non-sports. (it still isn't but it's a lot better)

What do you mean by "and no".

You might have made more of a killing had it been marketed better in other forums. You wouldn't have done worse.

I'm fairly active in several forums, and I never heard of the Mythology release until today. Obviously I'm not active in the right forums, and obviously I wasn't searching for "Mythology", or I would have seen that release and probably been a big supporter.

I've learned that many of these boutique releases sell out the first day they are offered, so they don't really need to do much marketing to sell out.

And these are real sales--not like Panini "selling out" of something.

I'm not saying we won't do our own spin on certain themes, but there are also quite a few untapped themes we think are worth exploring. We've also got a top secret non-sketch product we're working on now, but that'll come later this year.

This is what we're finding out as well. With a 60-70 case run, we didn't need to do any advertising to sell out quickly. We contemplated ads in the Non-Sports Update Magazine, and attending more Comic and Trading Card conventions, but it just didn't make sense if we didn't have any product left to sell. However, we understand that if we're to grow and produce larger releases, it's good to have a solid base in the community by having a presence on various forums and outlets.

From that perspective, I understand. From the secondary market perspective, having more potential buyers means potentially higher selling princes for those rip and flippers.

My point being, it might have been a slaughter.

how about bacteria / viruses for a sketch set? Some of those are really interesting looking under a microscope!

That was on the list as well, with vintage slides imbedded in cards. We may just make that a subset of another science based set though, as we're not sure if that alone is enough for an entire set.

I'm a microbiologist, soooo.... YES! Molds spores alone would make for fantastic selection. I'd love to see a microbiology sketch set =)

You would have loved the gallery show by our AD Ashleigh Popplewell a while back. All kinds of microscopic themed paintings! I tried to get her to give them all to me. She declined.

For those of you that collect her sketch cards... her large scale paintings are even more impressive!

Sad Littles announced an upcoming steampunk themed set already, but they just postponed or canceled their Voltron set, so who knows if they are going to do the others.

Those are some incredible paintings! I would've loved to be there to see them. I'll be chasing them down in the future if similar sketch cards appear in a science based set.

I also agree with Wes, Steampunk would be at least a case or two purchase for me as well! (I'm a microbiologists who wears Steampunk to local conventions. You guys really have me down with the ideas you're busting out here.)

I tried! Conflict of interests she says, being on the set and AD at the same time.

In case people were wondering where the preview cards ended up (not to brag):

I got the card on the right:

I got the card on the left:

I have the card in the middle:

My full break is here for those interested, sorry for the spam for those who aren't.
