Just days after announcing that it will be the exclusive manufacturer of trading cards for Minor League Baseball, on Friday Topps released preview images and basic product information of what’s to be found in its first MiLB issue set to arrive early next year.
It appears that Topps Pro Debut will include some of the high-end inclusions that other products have had — something that should spark interest in the MiLB market — relying on its Futures Game access and apparently in the unfortunate case of one autograph cut — of Tim Beckham, who is under exclusive contract with another company — its Aflac program.
Each 24-pack box of the hobby-exclusive product will include two autographed cards and one Relic numbered to fewer than 99 copies.
Each 12-box case will include three Debut Cut Signature cards.
The first series base set will consist of 220 cards with Red, Gold and Blue parallels as well as printing plates.
There will be 32 players featured on autograph cards spread between Debut Prospect autographs — with a full run of parallels — as well as the Debut Cuts (20 players in that set alone). The Cuts will be limited to 100, while Blues are limited to 199, Golds limited to 50 and Reds being 1/1s.
The Relic sets will include 49 players — Futures Game participants — with Gold, Book Patch, MLB Logo Patch, Flag Patch and Red-bordered Patch parallels as well. Relics will be limited to 99 cards apiece, while Golds will be limited to 25, Reds limited to five and all others will be 1/1s.
There will be 100 players featured on insert cards in the product — 20 inserts per box — with All-Stars from Single A, Double A, Triple A and the Hall of Fame included.

So that is what they are doing with some of the AFLAC auto's, cutting them up and putting them in other cards.... That does not sit well with me!

That would be the only thing I'd raise an eyebrow over too. Otherwise, I think it looks solid. Although hopefully with the high-end hits displayed, Topps doesn't try to make this an expensive product. If packs/boxes are any more expensive then the Basic Topps product, I think this could be a flop. If they price it reasonably, I could see this product becoming a success.

I'm looking forward to this product but agree with my fellow Buckeye Mike, it needs to be priced reasonably. Very curious to see what the checklist will look like. With the rights to the entire minor league it could be a great list but I'm not holding my breath.

LOL. That would be a first.

I assume the Beckham type of card is only for the Razor Exclusives to get them in the product. However, making an ugly card just to say there is a Beckham AU in there, that's pretty crappy.

Looks like (guessing) around $50-60 per box, $550-600 per case.

One thing about the inclusion of the Tim Beckham Cut AFLAC Auto card, is that it will make the non-auto versions more valuable IF he makes it in the MLB. Right now, he's a fringe player and prospect, not even close to the top 10 prospects according to Baseball America. So, it doesn't really matter. It may some day IF he becomes a super star. I'm lucky to have a copy of the original AFLAC card of Beckham, and glad to see Topps could work him in to their product. Razor's products don't seem to have held their value, and I haven't seen any new product or heard of any new signings. Razor may have been a one year deal....
