Default COMC, Yay or Nay? What say you?

Hi guys

I recently started collecting again and have quickly crawled up to almost 1k cards. This will be getting larger very soon since I am planning on buying 12 hobby boxes between now and October 31st (when Tops 5 Star is released)

Should I just open up a COMC account and have them manage my collection?
I am really only interested in High end cards so the sub $100 card will without a doubt, sit in my house for a very long time before my lazy butt posts it up for sale or start to look for a buyer. $100+ cards I will actively push to sell though :-)

What are your thoughts on using COMC?

I have done my research and they seem legit enough (since a lot of you here use it and they have a partnership with Blowout) but I want to hear firsthand what you guys think. Especially for someone like me who is getting back into this hobby and is going to be buying a lot this year.

Thx in advance gents

I'm bad about scanning my low-end stuff and have seriously considered them in the past and probably will again. It's just a question of if I'm willing to pay the fees for this stuff.

I set up an account, and loaded it with $50. Seems to be a very low risk opportunity to move some cards I'm too lazy to put on eBay. For $43, you can send them 200 normal sized, non-graded cards to scan, look up prices for, and list on their Site. After that, it's a penny a card per month to keep them there. Any new additions would fall within the same pricing structure.

personally, im about to get my low-end inserts over there. yes, there's an initial investment into your own stuff, but it's worth it.

They sometimes have $20 vouchers for first time submitters (good for about 85 cards). I've been doing it now for a couple months, and am pleasantly pleased with it. Low $$ cards move best for me. Cards $10+ move slow, if at all. It's like dealing in penny stocks.

Just be prepared for a lot of lowball offers.

A note to add to the comment above, storage is free for the first three months.

Thx for the input thus far guys

Question: Say they have one of my cards and it is worth $1.50 and after a few months maybe a yr or so the same card is now worth $3.25 - Will they auto adjust the price or is this something i need to be ontop of?

If there is a change in value they will email you so you can adjust your asking price.

You kick so much ass it's not even funny. Thank you for that. You just convinced me to send in some stuff. Have COMC give you a commission for that!

Ebay is MUCH better. I learned the hard way after sending a few thousand dollars worth of cards to them. Things move alot slower and you get alot less than you would on Ebay bec so few people go to the Comc site compared to Ebay. And the non stop low ball offers are sooooo annoying!!!

Looking for Andre Dawson Serial numbered cards that are his jersey number - either #8 or #10. So looking for cards like 8/8 or 08/99 or 10/250.

It really depends on what you send in and how you price your cards out.

I got back into collecting in early 2011 and signed up for COMC right away. Simply put, I do not want to deal with Ebay or Ebay shady buyers. I don't have the time and patience. COMC takes care of everything I don't want to. Trying to find things on Ebay is a pain. COMC is easy to use for buyers and sellers. They are tech savvy and are always looking to make it better. That's my pitch.

The downside, you don't get instant satisfaction as a seller. You can't list something 30 seconds after you open the pack. It's going to take at least a week unless you want to pay the rush fee. I can wait. I am not trying to flip, I'm just unloading what I don't want/need. :-)

I remember when your "sale" almost crashed the site a couple years ago . That was EPIC!

Could not agree more. A great way to unload low-mid end stuff. I still prefer to sell my high end on eBay to get that instant satisfaction.

There is a $20 voucher for first time submitters over on Sports Collector's Digest somewhere. I just sent in my first chunk of cards and used it.

I have a question as well. Is it good for like, lower-end inserts? I've bought from there before, but never sold. Do GU/Autos only sell, or do lower-end stuff sell as well?

So do you have to price it yourself?? Each card individually?? I thought they automatically put it at Beckett BV?? Or did I just hear that from someone......
