I don't have time to research this, but why is Lombardi looked at as a joke by a lot of people?

I'll tell you why...

Tommy Vardell, JaMarcus Russell, Robert Gallery, Phillip Buchanon, Michael Huff, Craig Powell, Fabian Washington...

Just a few of the great 1st round picks that Lombardi has been a part of. Don't even get me started listing the awful 2nd and 3rd rounders.

In like 15 years of working in Front Offices I can count - oh - about 5 picks out of probably 75+ he's made that were good picks.

Thanks!

So it sounds like his draft style will fit right in for us. Woo hoo - I hate change.

The only way to save this - and actually does sound like it happens today as well - is hiring Ray Horton as DC.

Chud/Turner/Turner/Horton will make me forget about Lombardi.

That would be a solid hire. But don't you worry, you will not forget about Lombardi once the draft rolls around.

Put me in at GM. They can pay for my college tuition, and for my gas in a car, and I will get us the best draft picks ever. Trust me, I'm a College sports addict, and already know who to take

Actually, I scout and send reports for my high school baseball team, since I can't play sports anymore

Moore or Werner would be a perfect fit.

Jarvis Jones as well - but his injury scares the hell out of me that high in the draft

Lombardi is an awesome evaluator of talent. Browns fans should be excited.

Dear god I hope you are being sarcastic...

Lets just look at picks he has been associated with in the Top 2 rounds of the draft - How many of these panned out? Hell how many have you even heard of? This is just a snippet of his awesome evaluation skills...

Tommy Vardell
Patrick Rowe
Steve Everitt (solid pick)
Dan Footman
Antonin Langham
Derrick Alexander
Craig Powell
William Thomas
Matt Stinchcomb
Tony Bryant
Sebastian Janikowski (probably his best pick ever...and it was a Kicker in the Top 20 of the draft)
Derrick Gibson
Marques Tuiasosopo
Phillip Buchannon
Napoleon Harris
Nnamdi Asomugha (holy crap a good pick)
Tyler Brayton
Robert Gallery
Jake Grove
Fabian Washington
Stanford Routt
Michael Huff
Andrew Walter
Thomas Howard
Jamarcus Russell
Zach Miller

Every one of those pick was in the Top 60 of the draft...

Can't blame Lombardi for any pick related to the Raiders. Al Davis made those decisions, not Lombardi....

That's the easy excuse.

If Lombardi has 0 input or control over draft choices in Oakland then he isn't even qualified to be an NFL VP in the first place because he never had a real job scouting talent.

Lombardi flat out displayed his man love for Gallery and Russell before the 04 and 07 drafts in multiple interviews - if he really didn't believe in them, and just did what Al Davis said, then he's just a pathetic puppet anyway.

Based on his ability to evaluate "talent" - Weeden won't be the Browns QB next year (which is actually OK with me) - it'll be one of these guys - all of whom he is in love with - or was notably in love with before their respective drafts.
