Default To grade or not to grade?

Hi All,

I recently pulled out my vintage collection I had when I was a kind in the early to mid 80s and found a pretty decent collection of bowman cards from the 50s and some Topps from the 50s and 60s. I also found a Mays card auto with the card being a bit rough. I was wondering whether it would make sense both for protection of the cards and for financial reasons to have the better cards graded by PSA? They are mostly in rough condition, maybe 2-4 for the majority, but I do have a few Spahns, a few Ernie Banks and cards of that ilk. Any thoughts? I probably won't be selling them but wanted to protect them. Thanks for your help.

I am personally not a big fan of paying someone to tell me what I already know I have. It is just something else created by the internet. If you are not going to sell them I would not bother with slabbing them. As far as protection I like the single screwdown (not the magnetic ones they can pop open) by either Ultra Pro or Pro Mold. They are only around a buck each and cheaper if you buy in bulk. They also fit in a monster box well.
I am a collector of sets. I want them all !!!
