Default bru's TTM thread

Got my first success of the year, so looks like it's time to start my own thread!

Xavier Hernandez, 4/4. Just three days! A great start to my ambitious quest to a complete set of autographs from the Astros.

I'll probably scan some old successes soon just to share a bit of my collection as well.

Another success in the box today. Sid Bream 5/5 (sent $5 with letter). He added a different bible verse to each one. 8 days.

Already have his signature on an 86 Topps and 88 Donruss, but now I have one of him in an Astros uniform for my team project. Plus, I have crazy thoughts about trying to complete one of these sets and get it signed. Something about the borders on the 88 Score or that classic 91 UD just makes them look great when signed.

Got a sweet looking Ron Swanson, er, Nick Offerman in the mail today. Just twelve days. It's a foil card, so it doesn't scan quite as nice, but the signature is in a perfect silver Sharpie.

I did the exact same thing with Bream last week (5 cards for $5)...and what I think is neat is that all five of yours were different than the ones I sent him (I sent 86D, 87D, 88D, 90F, 92UD). As far as getting complete sets signed, it's a daunting task, but fun if you can stay focused. You'll eventually reach a point where all you have left is toughies, expensive HOFers, and dead guys. That's mostly where I'm at with the 1985 Fleer. I've got a bunch of still incomplete signed-set projects from the past several years...still working on:

-1985 Fleer & Fleer Update (500-something/660 regular, 80-something/132 Update)
-1999 Team Best Baseball America (77/100, I think)
-2011 Heritage Minors (just going for 1-200, not the SPs) (60-something/200)
-2012 Heritage Minors (same deal, 1-200) (50-something/200)
-2013 Heritage Minors (1-200) (0/200)

Yeah, that's the fun part. I'm also thinking about tackling the Just 1999 and 2K sets. I had a good chunk of 99 series one signed. Also, I may have a piece or two for you for that Team Best set - PM who you have left.

Thanks! I'll check out the binder when I get home from work.

Bill Virdon, 4/4 came back today. 8 days. His handwriting is a little shakier than when I first got him, but that was probably a decade or fifteen years ago.

This fills another Astros in uniform hole, even if his time in uniform was as manager.

Also, I'm hesitant to jinx it by saying something, but this makes four mail days in a row with a return!

Well, my streak broke. Yesterday brought a return from Wade Boggs (4/4, $10) and today brought in Denny Walling (4/4).

I'm pretty excited because this replaces the cruddy ballpoint return I got from Boggs around ten years ago, and Walling adds another Astro to my collection.

Better scans of the Boggs and some scans of the beautiful Walling sigs that came in today.

Two more today: Art Howe (4/4, 4 days) and Damon Stoudamire (2/2, 11 days). Scans to come later.

Here are some scans of the Stoudamire and Howe returns. I wasn't sure what to expect with Damon, so I was pretty pumped to get that back.

As for Howe - boy his sig looks pretty sweet next to Walling's up there. And he even signed the darker 2001 Topps with a nice Silver pen. The scan doesn't do it justice. Quick return, just four days. He lives pretty close to me.

Checked the mailbox today and found a return from Mike Stanton. 4/4 cards, 12 days. Saw a few other recent returns from him and figured mine was about due.

This brings me to nine on the year, out of a total of 48 that I've mailed off thus far. Not bad!

Mark Quinn - 3/3 cards, 43 days, sent c/o his Baseball School. Answered my questions. Rec'd 3/7

Danny Darwin - 4/4 cards, including a 79 Topps rookie. Rec'd 3/7

Bob Aspromonte - Signed a 64 Topps I sent and the cardstock I used to protect it. Also sent three signed articles. 3 days, Rec'd 3/20

Got a few more in lately.

Roger Metzger 2/2, 14 days.
Floyd Bannister 3/3, 14 days.
Rusty Greer 3/3, 8 days.

Sent out another batch to some former Astros yesterday, and I'm looking to drop another bunch in the mail this week. Hopefully I can make some headway on my all-time roster project. Metzger and Bannister checked two more names off the list.
