That sweep for Curry looks sexy. Thought Lebron would have come 2nd in votes. Kawhi took that.

Thanks. This looks, for the most part, fairly accurate. I would switch CP3 and Westbrook and (maybe) Draymond for Dame. Oh, and take Harden out of there. But list seems right.

Also, has anyone ever being as high as Lillard (7th) without being an All-Star?

If Michael Jordan was dead ... he'd be rolling over in his grave.

I sincerely disagree with ever giving a one-way player an MVP trophy; that really irks me. Defense is 50% of the game and the voters seem to ignore it entirely ... it drives me nuts.

Now, before any goofballs accuse me of "hate speech", allow me to say I believe Steph is the "best shooter" that ever lived.

However, Steph is a one-way player and the game is 50% defense ... players like that should never win MVP's ... never.

Don't get it twisted though ... I am a Steph fan, love watching him play, root for the Warriors and think he's the epitome of what a role model should be and deserves to be the current "face of the NBA" ... but, no, he's not the best "basketball player in the world" as he's a liability on defense. That's not a knock on Steph as he can only work with what God gave him, and God didn't give him a 6'6" frame or Jordanesque athleticism ... Steph is maximizing his talent and that's all one can ask from anyone ...
You have officially become the new clown in the basketball section. Congrats:)!

Lol. Didn't take long for a Westbrook hater to show up, butt-hurt that he deservedly finished 4th. Curry is unquestionably the top player right now followed by Lebron, Kahwi, Durant and Westbrook. The voters got this right.

Thinking Westbrook is the 6th best player in the league instead of 5th is hating?

Thinking Westbrook is the 6th best player in the league instead of 5th is hating?

Actually 4th to 6th.

But this also means that you rank Durant being the man in OKC, but the voting result tells us that Westbrook is the key, not Durant.

just a little tid bit. in 95-96 when the bulls set the win/loss record and jordan earned mvp, penny got 2 first place votes, hakeem got one, and karl malone got one. with that many voters, im really shocked its unanimous but there is no doubt curry earned it this year.

MVP is MVP. The league is soft these days and this is what you get, a soft MVP.

Back in the grind of the Jordan days, you wouldn't get unanimous decision because of all the greatness in the game. You know it's true.

Humorous that you are calling others goofballs when really YOU don't know what you are talking about in calling him a "one-way player" considering Curry has been in the top 5 in steals and rebounds among point guards. You say you're a Steph fan but for some reason you can't see with watching him that he absolutely can hold his own on defense and by no means is a liability. His 2.14 steals per game led all point guards this season. He averaged 5.4 rebounds and 4.6 defensive rebounds. Only Russell Westbrook and Rajon Rondo averaged more. This to go along with him averaging 5 points more than anyone else, being a part of the exclusive shooters club at 50-40-90 shows that there really wasn't anyone else to realistically consider over him

I actually think his defense is greatly underrated. He's much better than people think.

Yeah his defense is really above averaged compared to most guards but just overshadowed with how great of a scorer he is

TOP FIVE VOTES/POINTS

1. Curry 1,310
2. Leonard 634
3. James 631
4. Westbrook 486
5. Durant 147

So, looks like Westbrook is more valuable than KD:eek::eek::eek:

I had him 6th. He had him at 5th and the voters at 4th. I just don't see how I'm hating for having him at 6th while he's not while having him at 5th.

And I do think Durant had a better season than Westbrook. Both were great, just have KD slightly ahead.

Curry absolutely deserved the MVP. I'm a little shocked he was unanimous though, as LeBron is move valuable to the Cavs than Curry is to the Warriors. Figured Bron might've stolen at least a couple 1st place votes.

Cool to see Kawhi finish 2nd. Super underrated all-around player.

TOMBB25

Explain why Steph is so horrible on defense. I don't watch every game, but I do see him playing hard D when I do. He's a small dude, but he seems to do the right things on the defensive end. He also gets a ton of steals. Obviously he's not a all defensive guy, but liability is a strong word here.

I've always thought the same thing. I watch almost every single Warriors game and to say that he is a bad defender or doesn't play D is absolutely ridiculous. Show me a montage like they have of Harden just letting players go by, not even trying, you will NEVER see that with Steph. He doesn't have a big frame, which is a disadvantage, but he actually does defend, he gets in defenders faces, he makes the correct switches, etc. The Warriors play an incredibly uptempo game and the point guard/shooting guards are many times the best scorers, so he does have a lot of points scored on him, but his defense is criticized way too harshly.

IronMonkey415
05-10-2016, 03:21 PM
The same day he won that award, he broke Gary Payton overtime point scored as well. Curry scored 17 POINTS BY HIMSELF.

He plays average defense, but dominates on offense. People want to knock him down, so they exaggerate his one "weak" point.

Just complete domination. All season. Haven't seen that level of unrelenting domination since Kobe and Jordan. Steph has that IT factor that those 2 have. Lebron is transcendent, but the one knock on his game is whether or not he has that killer instinct. I don't think he does.

Question is...how long can curry keep up this level of play. Hopefully he steers clear of injuries. It's fun to watch.

elee712
05-10-2016, 06:18 PM
He plays average defense, but dominates on offense. People want to knock him down, so they exaggerate his one "weak" point.

And to add on this, a player dominating on offense wins you a lot more games than a player dominating on defense. Being an great defender may allow you to stop the guy you are guarding but there are 4 more guys on the team that can beat you. I'll take great team defense over great individual defenders.

What curry brings is the fact he makes everyone around him better. Defenses have to open up and if you don't keep two guys on Curry, he will torch you. If you have him well covered from the half court, 4 other guys will have a wide open shot or lane. Pick your poison.

Being a 2-way player is great but it won't help your team win more games than a guy like Curry who elevates 4 other guys on the court with his dominant offensive ability to dribble, pass and shoot.

The Bulls 72 win season, Penny got a pair of votes from Jordan. That makes zero sense.

Because Penny was player of the month in Nov. In Nov, Bulls had 12-2 record. Magic had 13-2 record without Shaq. Some voters carried the early season success into season ending MVP vote. This also fused Shaq to leave Magic.

As for Curry, he led the race since Nov. It was not even a close race after 2 weeks.

NBA SportVU likes Curry too. If you look at guards with a reasonable amount of defensive action, out of 72 guards ranked by opponent's FG %, Curry is: #9 (less than 5ft); #4 (5-9 ft); #46 (10-14 ft); #12 (15-19 ft); #21 (20-24 ft); #11 (25-29 ft). That is somewhere between very good and elite.

It also reminds you that it is a subjective and unimportant award. Humans with bias voting for people they like. Fortunately for Steph, he is likable and on the best team and that team's best player. Jordan was the best player from about 1990-98 but didn't win every year, let alone unanimously.

Surely you can't be serious. The dude tried to pitch in professional baseball after he retired. He had not played baseball since high school. To say he has no work ethic is beyond absurd. He had a pretty solid career, he just couldn't get it done in the playoffs.

In basketball, the offense dictates everything. Defender can only react. And no single player can shut down all 5 guys at the same time. Any good offensive plan will avoid that defender. At most, a "perfect" defender only accounts for 30% of the defensive end. You still need other 4 guys to do a diligent job.

For offensive player, one can easily take over the game with just ISO play. This person can dominate the offensive game at 100%.

Baseball would be different. A "perfect game" pitcher can dominate the "defensive" end, but the best offensive player is only accounted for 1/9 of the chance (possible even lower if you do intentional walk).

+1. Differing viewpoints are what keep the forum interesting but to backup your views with "I'm smarter than everyone here" is just plain narcissistic. Thanks for the laughs, Jameis. You're a true 1 of 1.

Had the pleasure of attending the game in Portland on Monday. As much of a let down it was to lose in overtime, it was certainly awe-inspiring to watch Curry unleash the fury in the 4th quarter and OT! It takes a perfect storm for a player to get the unanimous vote for MVP, and this year was the one. After seeing it in person, I totally get! Let's go Blazers 2017 :)

That's awesome. How many of y'all in the stands had that same dumbfounded look on their face as Paul Allen during OT? Had that happened in Oracle, the crowd noise probably would have registered on the Richter scale. I'm just happy I woke up during the 4th quarter to watch history. You got to see it in person and I'm sure Portland fans will be talking about that game for years and years.
