Have you noticed the ebay prices on the Chrome Refractor RC now? PSA and BGS 9's have gone from a little over $500 to as high as $845 recently. I'm wondering if these are legit? I bought a BGS 9 a couple years back for under $300.

If you're asking this crowd they'll tell you it's all fake across the board, no way could cards go up in value.

I thought this card was way undervalued and tried winning a few auctions without success and then forgot about trying for more. He just hit the HOF. I think the increase was due.

Yeah I've noticed that too. I got my BGS 9 4-5 years ago for like $230. All the top guys from the 90s have gone up. I've been collecting chrome RC refractors for years.
You can check out my thread that I've been updating as I get them. I have all the ones I want except for a couple.

I finally pulled the trigger on one. Didn't have one after all these years because the photo choice really turned me off, but I got over it.

Nice. Yeah I've slowly been adding pieces to my collection. I just won the BGS 9 97-98 game jersey which I've wanted for quite some time. Still need a few including the showcase legacy collection.
At over $800 it's tempting to sell the chrome refractor, but I've only got one and have to have it in my collection.

Just the AI regular chrome rookie took me a while to get a good deal on it via eBay. It went for more than the Duncan chrome rookie I just purchased also.

If it's any help, I just won the last PSA 9 and already paid for it. So I can at least assure you that sale was real.

That's true, I remember buying my BGS 9.5 chrome RC a while back for around $50. I'm not gonna complain that my collection is worth more now. Of course as a collector, it's nice to be able to buy them cheap! I guess it just seems like all of a sudden they just doubled (or more) in price. I would have expected the increase to be slower and more gradual.

Cards are up across the board. There is a thread every other day about Jordan stuff selling high and all the nefarious reasons contributing to it but so is vintage, so is high end, so is rookies. Just enjoy. It could also go down one day.

not only his rookie refractor but also 98-99 skybox auto. i can't believe the price tag jump from 300 to be 800 something. as his collector, i am happy to see his value goes up, but it also give me some hard time to get more of those old classic stuff.

I don't care if it's a dollar or a thousand dollars, I unlike tacoma will never be able to get over the picture used.
Now his Bowman's rookie on the other hand, now THAT is a card. Especially the atomic, obviously.

Yes the prices are real. I sold my last Raw, PSA 9 and PSA 10 - and what you see are legit buyers!
As mentioned above - vintage is up, and so are the key cards, sets, and players of all the other decades. The majority of what is being released right now will end up pretty much worthless as there will be little demand for them 20 years from now. I think the known commodities are what people are snagging up now - and it's worth it to buy them because there will always be demand for them. They may drop in price as well, but they have shown that over time - they drop the least - or even rise! That is very rare for trading cards as the majority are worth much less decades after the player retires... Love him or hate him - Iverson helped change the game and how people view the game - he will always have loyal collectors and his best cards will always have demand to keep them from being worthless!

I picked up a Psa 9 and a BGS 9 chrome ai refractor Rc last month for 550 invoice each.
I used to complain that I didn't like the picture on chrome Rc but now I'm over it.
He looks intense and showing emotion.
Awesome card.

I always thought he looked like a baby back b**** in it and it turned me off for a long time. I picked one up too lately and have tried rationalizing to myself that he is being "intense", like you said.

Overall to answer this thread, the card in question was listed for sale by a guy over seas in Korea.
So I do find it odd because usually sales from over sees sell for less money.

I've found that at least with AI, some of the overseas stuff sells for more money, which has confused me too. I generally won't buy anything from overseas unless it's graded. Asia always scares me, for obvious reasons.

I'd take any of these over the Chrome any day...

No way. Chrome is king. I've always been a big fan of the BB atomic though.

The AI picture is one of the best from that set, IMO.
The atomic refractors are very cheesy and ugly looking, again IMO. :)!
Most of the sales for the AI refractor are definitely real but there were a couple that were a bit questionable. One was for a greening copy graded by PSA 9 and the same picture was utilized, as well as another one from a grading company called USA?

MAYBE just a bad flip by the buyer from the 1st time it was sold.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love the design of Topps Chrome refractors in general - it's one of my favorite ever, especially the first year.... But I always take into account photo+design, and I've never been a fan of any picture that isn't an action shot. I get that he's displaying emotion and it's not an "inactive" frame, but if it's not involving direct gameplay I can't get into it.
The Kobe chrome rc - even removing the monetary aspect - is the perfect combination of photo+chrome design.

Personally my favorite of his RCs is the credentials. I've got that one in BGS 8.5 and 9, and I think it's undervalued relative to the others. Yes the print run is 499, but the total print run on the Legacy Showcase is 450 (150x3) and a BGS 9 there would probably set you back around $500, vs. a little over $300 recently for a BGS 9 credentials (with none graded higher). Just my thoughts. I'm not sure on the Chrome Refractor print run, but we've seen BGS 9 go for as much as $800 recently.
