View Full Version : The last straw with BGS!

So you probably saw my Jordan BGS thread a few days ago. It was enough to get me upset with BGS's practices that I made a thread about it, here:

http://www.blowoutcards.com/forums/basketball/1012775-bgs-terrible-their-job.html

Well, this listing by PWCC (Imagine that....) really made me lose all trust in BGS and never again trust anything graded by them.

Take a look:

2014 Panini Excalibur Rampage Andrew Wiggins RC Auto Patch 349 BGS 9 5 PWCC | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-Panini-Excalibur-Rampage-Andrew-Wiggins-RC-AUTO-PATCH-349-BGS-9-5-PWCC-/401135897024?hash=item5d659009c0:g:BfEAAOSwtJZXXZcE)

Yes. The entire right side of the first patch is ripped off, and yet BGS graded the surface a 9.5. HOW!? Atleast with the Jordan above there was a slim possibility that the surface damaged happened after the grade, but this one would be impossible.

So I ask again, A) is BGS that unknowledgable about the products that they think this is the normal design of the card? B) did they simply not notice this? C) did they notice it and think that one side of the patch window being ripped off only docked the surface grade .5?

Here is what the card looks like in mint form for those that aren't familiar with the set:

Andrew Wiggins 2014 15 Excalibur " Rookie Rampage " Ball and Patch RC Auto 349 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/ANDREW-WIGGINS-2014-15-EXCALIBUR-ROOKIE-RAMPAGE-BALL-AND-PATCH-RC-AUTO-349-/162082745752?hash=item25bce26d98:g:dcgAAOSwBPNXRdKc)

Either something is going on here where cards are submitted with pre-determined grades for certain collector$, or BGS is incompetent and the grades they award cards should be taken with a grain of salt.

Either way, BGS is a sham!

They don't grade the patch. They only grade the cardboard.

To me it looks like its the patch that has come out and is covering the window rather than the window being ripped? Not saying it should be a 9.5 but doesnt look like that patch window has been damaged

I forgot to add this to your last post:

The quality control at BGS is getting worse. I have recently purchased cards that have fuzz and/or small hairs between the case and the sleeve or the card and the sleeve. Awful.

Yeah I agree with jj2, it looks like panini put a damaged patch on it but bgs doesn't grade the patch just the card.

I agree with this. First time I looked at it I didn't think of this ... Looked at it again and can see what you're talking about.

Not to hijack your thread or anything, but I, too, am losing patience with BGS.

I submitted this one and rec'd it back with a damaged case because the morons still don't double box their shipments.

So I send the card back in to be recased, and would you guess that BGS could not see the damage on the case, so they sent it back to me without recasing.

I too had a problem getting cracked cases. When I sent it back I put a big bright post-it on there with an arrow pointing to the crack just to make sure they saw it. So BGS fixed it and had one card graded free for the hassle. My order was sent back double boxed the next time so gotta give a thumbs up on that one.

But for surface/patch grades I'm guessing the card itself is gem. I'd just stay away from buying the card. My issue with BGS is Autograph grades.. but that itself could be a whole new post.

Guys, this isn't the patch. This is the patch window. The cardboard is completely ripped. I'm well aware that BGS doesn't grade patches.

Edit: I think I see what you're talking about. You're saying the patch is overlapping the window. If that's the case then this is my mistake. Still, I would think this effects the grade a bit more than it did. The card has a defect.

It's 100% the patch popping out of the window.

What makes you so sure that the patch window is ripped?

That really looks like the patch popping out of the window or even the extra fabric from it is flowing out.

Not a problem. Just get a job with BGS and get your BGS buddies to give your cards a higher grade than they deserve. Grading companies are basically licenses to print money.

I think it looks pretty obvious that's the case.

I have a curry chrome rc graded BGS 9.5 and the inner sleeve has stuff all over it. It looks like they were eating donuts while inserting it into the slab.

They don't grade the patch. They only grade the cardboard.

Correct!
If you don't like the patch blame Panini, not BGS

That's true. But OP thought the cardboard was torn between the patch windows. At first, and looking at the thumbnail, it looks as though it's ripped. When zooming in you can tell it's the patch sticking out over the window.

BGS are not at fault on this occasion.

Yeah, this is just a case of the patch popping out of the window, but BGS does still suck at their jobs.

I just submitted a Kris Bryant Blue Chrome auto for grading last week. It had pretty bad surface damage (scratches all over and 2 deep indentations above his head) so I expected the card to grade a 9 at BEST, but most likely an 8.5 because I honestly thought the surface would grade an 8.

Got it back yesterday.... 9.5 Gem with a 9.5 surface grade

So yeah, BGS is pretty much a joke, but I'll gladly take it this time around. :D

I honestly believe with the hobby hurting, their magazine all but dead.....where's the money? In grading cards......

Send in a few cards and get some gold labels....feel good about your purchase with BGS. So you use their service again. If they keep grading tough and making customers feel like it's not worth it.....they stop using the service.

Maybe BGS should create a new sub in the grading.....patch 6.5.

Can it be that the blue fabric is folding over the white patch window?
