View Full Version : How are Curry TC RC cards still outselling Lebron?

The last two Lebron PSA 10 chrome rc cards sold for 570 & 625 while there is a Curry PSA 10 for over 2k now. And the refractor /500 for curry still seems to be over a 2k card while Lebron refractor /500 is $900-2000~ now depending on the condition. It doesn't make any sense to me how Curry still outsells Lebron.

2009-10 much more short printed than 2003-04

That's all I can think of...

doesnt make any sense to me, people are just more relatable to curry i guess, the average american isnt very athletics (like curry) can go to the park & fire up 3s (like curry) if they make 3 they are gonna FEEL LIKE CURRY. While Lebron can dunk on everyone & jump out of this world to block shots unlike an average american. Curry also isnt very tall, your average person doesnt have a chance to be 6'8 & do the god like things lebron can do..... too many people are just too biased on lebron, they cant be 6'8 & dunk a basketball but they can go outside & shoot some threes..... & run around screen in a pick up game

2009 chrome curry /999

2003 chrome lebron may have 10x that many copies ?

2009 chrome curry refractor /500

2003 chrome lebron refractor many more copies and more parallels.

That's not accounting for all the other rookie sets and refractors for lebron. Bowman chrome, topps pristine etc.

So some chance that curry has ~1600 chrome rc (base /999, refractor /500, gold /50 and not sure what else). While lebron might have 10-20x as many ?

I mean I get the logic, but even then I guess I was just surprised how high Curry cards are selling for. I was expecting a much bigger fall in prices

Would give it a month or two. Not sure if I would trust those two recent sales.

They have been falling slightly but definitely more so now with the loss. The Topps base is where the major fall is happening. A $400 card all day a few months ago(a fool and his money are soon parted) to a average of about $120 raw now. PSA 9's run about $200

Still waaay too hide. The card is boring!

Curry's team was five points away from back to back titles. His cards should not see a massive decline. Did LeBron's cards tank after his 2011 Finals debacle?

Demand for Steph Curry is still higher than on Lebron on that particular case.

For whatever the reasons may be, people like Stephen Curry more than LeBron James. The sportscard hobby market speaks for itself. It is what it is.

The guy won back to back MVP's and almost won back to back championships. The guy lead the league in points, 3's, FT%, and steals. No one has ever averaged more than 4 three's a game.. this guy averaged FIVE. The guy is still getting paid from a contract he signed when he was injury prone and hasn't demanded a pay raise after his breakout season. He usually says the right things when interviewed and stays out of trouble.

A lot of basketball fans like him.

It's funny how people are acting like everyone should forget about him because he was a few points short from winning another ring. Again, it is what it is.

Give it time. The sheer number of gem LeBrons available on the market is staggering compared to Curry, and the market is still a bit unsure of where to place them both after the finals. Tack on the fact that a handful of collectors are taking hundred of LeBrons off the market every ~6 months and in a couple of years, you'll see a PSA 10 sail well over $1K.

This is VERY simple. There are only 999 curry chromes. very rare pulls that you could only get in topps packs. there was no topps chrome that year. there has to be over 20,000 lebrons in circulation. i dont know how many cases of 2003-04 topps chrome were made but i know for a fact that in 2003 i busted 5 cases of topps chrome and in every case i got 6-8 lebrons. In 2009 i busted 3 cases of topps and got ZERO curry chromes. could have been bad luck on my side but the curry card is MUCH more limited then the lebron and if he keeps this up it will look like a steal in 3-4 years.

Give them time, people are still in shock right now.

Plus the fact that non-baller such as myself can relate to Curry more then Lebron. Camp out at the 3 point line and wait for the ball, whenever we play.

I opened 14 cases of Topps Jumbo.

I never pulled a McDonalds White Border Rookie (Griffin, Harden), I only pulled Black Border McDonalds Rookies (Evans, Jennings, etc).

Only pulled 1 Curry Gold 50, 1 Curry Black 50, a bunch of Curry 500's and 999's.

I opened about 10 Hobby Boxes and never pulled a single Curry 999, or 500 and I never pulled ANY Gold Refractors from a Hobby Box.

Can't compare the base and refractor. Instead compare the Black Lebron to the Refractor Curry or maybe Golds of both guys.

In my opinion, the Black Border #50 Curry Topps is tougher to find than the Gold Refractor Curry.

Also, the 40k PSA 10 Curry Gold Chrome that just popped up, would get only a BGS 9.5.

The whole market is a sham. You guys buy and sell based on perception anyways. You honestly think the price of cards are soley based on a players performance? muhaahah!!

Collecting is like a popularity contest. If a bunch of people suddenly like a card, the groupies start buying that card and demand drives the price. Thats how it works.

Camp out at the 3 point line? You do realize Curry led all guards in field goal percentage from inside the paint too right? One of the better driving finishers in the league

yea, I'm sure the average american can win two NBA MVP's by chucking up 3's and running around screens; haha, absolutely hilarious. Last time I checked the average height for men in the US was like 5'9..... not 6'3

Lebron is a smug, arrogant, dbag in a lot of people's minds...... maybe people just like Curry better, maybe people that have bought up Lebron don't want to buy anymore..... maybe people think now is a good time to get Curry because of a slight price dip. Maybe people are holding off on Lebron because they think it's his absolute peak........... there could be a million reasons why someone buys Curry over Lebron right now........ but to say Curry isn't athletic and compare him to an "average american" athlete.... yea, I can guarantee that is not the reason

This not even coming from a Curry homer, just someone with common sense and a pair of eyes. Guys sitting the bench in the D league are a million times better than your "average" athlete shooting around screens in the parks of America... I would venture to say a two time MVP is probably better as well and significantly more physically gifted

Curry Topps Chrome are very hard to find in Gem Mint condition. The back of the card is all black and easily messed up. Its actually a very condition sensitive card.

/999 vs not numbered

want a Curry TC? there are 999 base, 500 refractors, 50 gold refractors and 1 black refractor

there are a TOTAL of 1,550 Curry TC's to go around.

want a LeBron TC? there are, unnumbered base, ref, XFrac, Black Ref, Gold Ref, etc

This is like asking why the Jordan fleer rc sells for so much less then the star rc, supply and demand. The currys are much rarer hence the higher price.

I agree. People spent all season long being amazed with Curry. After the Warriors lose the Championship in 7 games and by a few points, now he "just camps out at the 3 point line". People amaze me.

The guy shot 50% and 45% at the perimeter (while averaging FIVE A GAME). He lead in steals, FT%, and points. There was no other player anyone can think of that deserved the MVP this year.. but then people wonder why he was unanimous? Think about that?

People talk about his defense. The guy weighs 160 pounds! What do you expect? At least his hands can steal.

People are so quick to bash on a player.

As a lot of people have eluded to, it's supply.

Same reason you can find a 2007 Durant Topps rookie for half the price of a 2008 Westbrook Topps rookie. They really cranked up the printing presses for the 07 class.

I think a lot of it has to do with the time most have had to acquire Lebron cards. Lebron's are what 12-13 years old and has been chased since. Although I believe the age should add to scarcity as people stash, leave the hobby, cards lost/destroyed etc.

I get the chrome sp argument, I just don't buy into it as much. Not to the tune of hundreds for a base, or thousands for a chrome. At some point, you've got to agree that's ridiculous for anything numbered over 50.
