Report: Pau Gasol finalizing 2-year deal with Spurs (http://www.ksat.com/sports/nba/spurs/kevin-durant-spurs-nba-free-agent-pau-gasol)
I think he should sign with the Warriors!

Reminds me of The Mailman chasing rings towards the end of his career. But this is a decent fit for the multi national Spurs, especially if the Duncan rumors are true. Shoot, even if they aren't.

I think that was a city decision as much as a basketball decision. He wanted to win and life in a cosmopolitan city. Options are different this time around.

Except for the the fact that Gasol has won a championship, so really not too much alike at all. Nobody wants to sign for an awful team at the end of their career. Might as well just retire.

I guess coupling this with Duncan's decision makes it harder. Almost like they know he's hanging it up so it's official. Love the signing, just wished it was sooner. The last two years could have been so different and tbh some of the talent the Spurs have has lost steps (plural) since lol

Player at end of career joining team to try and get ring. How is that not alike

Pau is already a two time champion. Also, Gasol is an all-star but he's a complimentary player. He's not a ringless 40 year old superstar franchise player.
He just wants to be on a team that can compete in his final years and he is taking less money than he could get elsewhere to do it. Nothing wrong with it.
Also, Kawhi and Lamarcus Aldridge aren't exactly Shaq and Kobe.

You can still chase rings late in your career even if you've won championships before. Derek Fisher is a perfect example.

If he was ring chasing he would have signed with Golden State or Cleveland for way under his market value.
There are a lot of ring chasers out there, Pau Gasol isn't one of them. Kevin Durant is.

no doubt hes chasing a ring, but he is doing it the right way. were not talking about a top 3 talent player leaving a top team and going to a top team. gasol is on the downside of his career and is leaving a busted franchise to a top team. big difference.

Just about every player in the league is out there trying to win a ring and put themselves in a position to be successful. However, "Ring Chasing" is a very specific phenomenon. People are throwing the phrase around a little recklessly in my opinion.
40 year old Karl Malone was trying to ride Shaq and Kobe to get a cheap ring. Kevin Durant just joined an already stacked team that was one game 7 victory away from being the back to back champs. That is ring chasing. Both of them are superstar players that were insecure about never winnign a ring and didn't want to reire without at least one.

It's no problem, I'm not bothered by what you said. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I am maybe just a little more particular than other people on the subject.

Spurs need a guard IMO. Gasol has a year or two left and could play well though.

I think he is a great fit and will play well and help the team. I don't think they will have enough to beat Golden State. San Antonio is excellent up front but they are going to need help in the back court in my opinion.

Nope

He opted out, but may resign with some sort of exemption space though?!?
Apparently there is talk of bringing West into an asst. coaching role in the near future, so he may hang around one more year then jump straight in?

I was really looking forward to the Gasol signing, but the KD bandwagon jump has really deflated me for this year.
Glad Lebron got one in CLE while he still had a chance
Feel for Duncan who is almost fighting in futility if he decides to go one more
