View Full Version : Does a card have more upside if it's been graded by Beckett long ago?

I'm trying to figure out if a card might have a premium added to it because it was an early grade by Beckett. I have a Randy Moss Bowman Chrome refractor rookie, and I honestly believe it may have been the "First one" graded by Beckett. The serial number is really low. So does that mean anything to a collector?

Does anyone here have a Beckett graded card with a lower serial number???

Check out the pics and LMK what you think.

Any input is appreciated! :)

I know that Beckett has gotten harder on auto grading, but I am not sure about the general stuff.

Back doesn't look like 10 centering to me. Either way, I am not sure if this adds value.

I don't know about Beckett so much but it seems PSA has gotten harder on grading. Which is why I stick to newer slabs....at least this seems to be the case with numerous Montana rookies I've compared as an example.

Plus, I think the PSA hologram makes the eye appeal a little better but in the end, buy the card not case/grade.

I am one of the people that will pay a premium for old BGS labels and I know I'm not the only one. It just looks much cleaner to me with the subs on the back.

What was the first year of BGS?

Yup... I'll pay more for an old label slab.

It does appear to be the 1st one (by 2 days) of 136 graded:

The registry seems to only go back to card 500, and it is:
Set Name: 1992 Classic Show Promos 20
Player Name: Ken Griffey Jr./(July 1992 Atlanta National)

499 and below don't appear to exist. (in the registry)

Can't someone with a questionable PSA 10 in an old case just pay to have that card reslabbed in the new case as a PSA 10 or do they re-grade? What if the card got damaged in the case and it was obvious. Would they still reslab a 10?
