I had been looking for this card for a couple years. It finally got listed on Ebay and I was going to win it no matter what, but the seller ended the auction early with less than a day left. He claimed that it was sold off Ebay. That's one of my biggest pet peeves on Ebay, is sellers ending auctions early.

Anyway, if someone here snagged this card, let me know if you'd like to make a nice profit. :)

when you see items like that; and you absolutely know you are going to win at any cost..... you have to message the seller to let them know A) You would like to buy outright, what would be his number B) Throw out some ridiculous off and let them accept C) Make sure they know you will be bidding and that nobody is willing to pay more than you; basically just a heads up not to accept any offer without asking you first if you would pay more

It blows; but that is the game.... ebay forces the hand of the buyer for items like this because the general public has no idea what is going on between private messages/negotiations while item is still on auction

Yep. If you want it, you HAVE to message the seller. Its a dirty, slimy nasty game. But, it must be played to win.

If only eBay would ban the sellers and buyers who pull that crap when the auction has bids. There's only one reason buyers do that, and that's because they know the potential is there to go higher than they can afford or want to pay (flippers) if the auction ran full course.

To me that just screams, the seller can shill it up and the buyer won't question anything.

Sorry that happened to you, that is a really sick card.

What I dont get is why are some of the highest of high end cards demolished?
The entire top of that card looks like someone took sandpaper to it, but the problem is that i see this all the time with exquisite, flawless, immaculate, etc..

For the prices card manufacturers charge for these high end products, they should be triple wrapped in cotton blessed by the virgin mary herself, and placed into individual reinforced boxes

This is a great post.

When a card like this comes up I typically just say "just an FYI, I am planning on bidding on this card. If for whatever reason you consider selling it early, please give me a chance first. I promise that will be beneficial to you".

To me that just screams, the seller can shill it up and the buyer won't question anything.

Then you run the risk of them selling elsewhere..... it is what it is. If they want to shill you up, well then you paid a number you were willing to pay; or they get too greedy and don't sell at all

This type of logic is only relevant to items you will likely never see again or maybe once every 4-5 years... Truly special cornerstones to your collection that you would be happy to overpay for. Otherwise it wouldn't matter if they sell elsewhere, just buy something else and move on. That is not the situation I am explaining here

Not necessarily, there have been cards that I've seen show up that I'm willing to overpay if they add a BIN when it's listed than have to stress out for a week wondering if I'll win the card or not, cards that I know for certain nobody will outbid me on, and that I'll win at a lesser price than what I'm offering to add the BIN now to get it done and in my possession ASAP.

But I also have a rule, I will only message the seller and see if they'll add a BIN to the card if there haven't been any bids on it, as with on bids they can do that at anytime without someone asking anyways, no point throwing it in my watch list only for them to add it randomly if nobody bids and someone else hit the BIN because I haven't felt the need to look at it in a couple days.

But if there is any bid on it, I won't message the seller, however now that I see this I wonder if I should send a message like someone else here said that I'm interested and please don't sell it to an offer without contacting me first just to be safe, as there are people out there will obviously less morals than myself and pull that crap.

I think they did something where final value fees would be taken if the seller ended an auction early and it had bids... I don't know if it's the standard 10% but if they took even half that on a pretty expensive item; it could definitely detract from sellers doing that

Smart sellers would still end early and sell to their buyer who they would make sure is the winning bidder... then just collect the difference direct through paypal.

I disagree with the logic on the second part of this.... I saw an item last year, immediately bid 100 bucks on it to secure the high bid... then messaged the seller and asked what it would take to buy it. He replied 275, I paid. I had never seen the card once before that, and I haven't seen one since........ It was a 97 Metal Gem /150 so you are will versed in that area and know how hard they are to locate. It would not have sold for 275, but I would have paid 175, 275, maybe even 375... I just wanted it.

The slapdicks messaging to buy at 50% sale value may fit the bill for your analysis.... but anyone buying for a PC would not be in that group
