I want to submit this card for a chance at black. What's the process? Do they break the case and re-examine it? Would I be better off breaking it and sending it in with a minimum grade? Any advice very much appreciated!!

What seems to work for some people is this..
Get together a large group of 10-20 cards just like the Lebron, that are one sub bump away from a BGS 10.
Send them all in together, and BGS will likely give you a sub bump on one of the cards you submit.

Uhh.. I owned this one. I sold it for peanuts compared to what it would go for now. A regular BGS 10 (http://bit.ly/29kaBPm) recently sold for a ton. No telling what the black label would bring. I would break it and resub it ,but always chance it comes back a 9.5. Be prepared for that to lol

I wouldn't be surprised if BGS graders have been told not to hand out too many black labels and if they have 20 cards they think are deserving of a black label they give 1 a black label and then randomly choose edges or surface to give a 9.5 on as those are probably the hardest grades to verify in the case. Is a 1/2 point surface deduction something that is perceptible to the human eye? Probably not, but people will pay much more for that extra 1/2 point and BGS knows it. They have no incentive to change grades. Of course they will bump some, but only to encourage more resubmissions. I would love to know how much of their grading revenue is from resubmissions. I would think it's substantial.
