View Full Version : Do you ever bid on PC cards just so your nemesis won't win it??

Just wondering.........
Also, if you know that you and your nemesis are going to be the only 2 bidders, do you throw a high bid on (knowing that you are going to lose), just to keep everyone honest??? i.e. if you don't bid the card goes for 99 cents, but if you bid $20.00, then others will know that is a 20 dollar card and not a 99 cent card????

As long as OP pays (if he wins), I don't think it matters.

If the card interests me, I bid on it, whether I have it or not. If someone else wins, fine and if I win, that's fine too.

Yup. Have a number in mind that I'm happy with. If I get outbid so be it.

No. I wouldn't want someone to do that to me.

Running up the price on someone else on a card you don't care about just to run up the price is lame.

I wouldn't bid to just "keep everyone honest." That said if I had a card I paid $100 for and it was sitting at $50 I would gladly buy another if I could get it significantly cheaper. If I don't win it for $75 or so no big deal. I wouldn't let it go for $50 either though since I obviously valued it enough initially to pay $100.

Sometimes spite is the only answer. A friend of mine was collecting a certain player, and reached out to another guy who was obviously collecting the same player via ebay message and said something like listen man if there are multiple print runs of a card let's give eachother a heads up and not keep bidding eachother up, like you'll get one ill get one. Seller came back with something like money isn't a problem for me in kind of an a$$holish way. So my friend won 7 out of the 10 cards on a 10 run print.

So.....market manipulation?
exactly what it is, inflating the value because you don't want to see it drop

The funny ones are the ones that I always bid my absolute max, then get outbid by a small amount only to see the card pop up again the following week.

It's cardboard....I don't have a nemesis because he/she owns card xyz. Kind of silly to think of.

I just bid up auctions with like 3 days left to make the early appearance that somebody seems to be truly interested.

This is terrible and ridiculous behaviour if you actually do want to keep collecting said player/set cards....
All you do, by getting into 'fake' bidding war is to attract flippers to come in and add more support to the inflated prices and thus hurting your chance of getting something at good prices in the future.

This is right. Volume precedes pricing....

I'm honestly surprised that more people don't have an issue with what the OP is doing.
Perhaps if he was inflating the prices on Jordan cards people would care?

The title question has the intention of winning.
OP's question in 1st post has no intention of winning.
Anyway, if you check the historical sales of Jared Dudley in ebay, you can tell that OP did more than once.

If you have spent some time on hobbykings, you would understand more about how these jerks think.
This is just an absolute douche move.
Sure, put in a lowball bid and hope you pick up the double, but why stuff about bidding it up with the plan to not win or just p*ss someone off?
This is the same as shilling. Unfortunately both are probably far too common in this "hobby".
