I have been looking into some of the "higher end" printing plates recently.
There are a few on eBay currently, but be prepared to fork over the serious cash if you are chasing some of the plates for the hot QBs etc.

You see Calvin Johnson and Andre Johnson plates go for next to nothing, then you see some newer "insert the next HOT name here" plates listed for hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Its crazy.

Anyway, I see a very wide range of thoughts on these things.
Some of you guys love 'em, and quite a few don't care for them at all.
I think they are a solid addition to someone's personal collection though not everyone shares a similar viewpoint.
For a "super collector", well generally they are like a number of 1/1s. It opens up a whole new area of extremely hard to find pieces. You will never be able to get them all. (I know there are a few out there that may have tracked down all the plates on smaller name players, I'm speaking in general)

Anyway, I snagged this one a couple of weeks ago and as many of you know I'm generally looking only for David Johnson items.

NEW EDIT - (The plates I have are along the bottom. The newest I snagged is the Chrome one to the right.)

These things are hard to value.
It may or may not be worth that much, but I won't be parting with it any time soon either. :D

I did see a Bowman one of David Johnson too. I noticed it right at the tail end of an auction, I believe it was listed at $79.99 with zero bids or action.

I am interested in others' plates here, and their thoughts. Why did you ultimately decide to acquire it? PC only? Any thoughts on how you value these things is appreciated.

I've thought about adding plates to my collection, but like you said value is so hard to determine, since the majority appear as 1/1 and the smaller crowd that collects them. I worry about losing money if I had to adjust my PC and had to sell off plates.

Love them usually. Certain products shouldn't have em. like national treasures (other than the base stuff) but I have 40+ cole hamels plates but the difference with them vs. other 1/1s is I won't over pay for plates. I have a limit across the board for them and rarely go over it

I have been chasing Derek Carr printing plates and have picked up around 30 seemed to hit a dry spell so now looking for Raiders. I find them unique but you are correct that prices can go from $20- $400. I always like to see other peoples collections as well. It may be helpful if we let each other know a team or player we are collecting as we search and help grow our PC. If anyone has or knows of any Derek Carr or Raider printing plates available outside of Ebay let me know and i will do the same for you.

I have several printing plates to share here. At this point, I really don't chase printing plates, but I if the player is of interest to me I take a swing at them on eBay when they pop up.

Marlin Jackson (top scan) is one of my all-time favorite Colts. That Black Bowman's Best plate was the first plate auto I ever purchased, way back in 2007 for a cool $20. I bought the Pink Marlin Jackson plate from a member here and still would love to acquire the Cyan and Yellow plate

The Kenton Keith in the top scan is a rather odd card. He has no autographed cards in the 2007 Rookies & Stars set except for the printing plates. The Black plate is all I have of the rainbow. The other three plates from the set went up for bid last year and a very aggressive buyer grabbed all three at a price that was above what I would have felt comfortable with.

I was able to snag the Daymeion Hughes earlier this year for dirt cheap. Couldn't pass that up for less that $15!

Ah, now time for the Mike Hart plates. Those three Finest plates represent 3/4 of the rainbow. I can't for my life find the Black plate but I'd be very interested in it if it surfaced. I have all of the autographs in the non-plated issues, so getting the black auto would mean I would have the full rainbow, plus plates. That Yellow Stadium Club plate was a part of a massive haul I took in of Mike Hart back in 2011 from a seller here.

Been some great stuff in here guys, it was good to look back through it again.

I went back and re-edited my original post with a new picture.

I now have 3 David Johnson plates.
Again, I am not a plate chaser/collector but if I see one I want, then I make an effort to get it.
I hadn't even thought about getting any plates recently, but I happened to look for a few last week.
Low and behold I saw a Topps Chrome plate, and I had been wanting one of these for some time, for a variety of reasons.
Not only is DJ one I collect (even though thats slowed a bit in favor of vintage) I had been wanting to get a nice Topps Chrome plate to go along with my others.

The three plates I have are along the bottom.

#1 - 2015 NT Rookie Dual Materials plate

#2 - 2015 NT Rookie Materials Signature Plate. On card auto.

#3 - 2015 Topps Chrome "Base" Black plate.

If other DJ plates become available, I might be interested.

Its been months since this thread was active, lets see some of the more recent plates you guys have picked up. :)!

Not always a huge fan of plates but had to have these when they became available. Loved the look of the Gala base but wasn't paying the price the /8s were going for, so went with these for far less.

I've been fascinated by printing plates that are a mirror image of the original. Topps Chrome are like that, and so are Panini Prizm even though they haven't released a lot of the Prizm plates. (The ones that are released as part of 2016 Plates and Patches, don't even show up in the Beckett catalog.)

(The ones that are released as part of 2016 Plates and Patches, don't even show up in the Beckett catalog.)

To follow up only around half are on Beckett online checklist and Prizm is not. I believe there are a total 24 different types only some on Beckett. I don't have list I have put together with me.

Thank you I have been chasing plates and have be looking hard actually have around 150 Derek Carr printing plates. I do have Mack and Carr plates . Unfortunately I have put many of my Mack, Cooper and a few other plates I am selling on eBay to cover some of my Carr costs. Check out my ebay Jptyro09.

Regarding 2016 Plates & Patches I have put together a checklist for Derek Carr based on what I have or seen information. I will say these cards are from cards that have not have previously available by packs. Some are subsets so may not be available for all players and I am not sure if all players of these products or subset have been released.

Thanks jptyro for the checklist. I wonder if the reason that some of the sets are not listed in Beckett is because only a subset of the set is in the Plates and Patches product. I've been tracking Plates and Patches plates for my PC player since the beginning and I've yet to see a Prizm plate of his.

Who do you collect for your PC ? Not all are subsets, I just don't think Beckett added them all or will. I tried to send them what I had come up with. I have found at least 1 card from 19 of the 21 Carr set I am chasing. They seem to be slowing down as new products come out and not as many cases are open I think.

I put together a checklist of Plates and Patches for Derek Carr that I have or am chasing. I try to find plates on Beckett website. Even they don't have all but a good list to chase. Who is your PC ?

My PC is Justin Forsett. Out of the sets listed in Beckett.com, Forsett appears in 5 sets and I have at least 1 plate in 4 of those sets. Out of the "not listed in Beckett.com" list, I have 2 of the Certified plates, but have never seen a Prizm plate.

It's great that you tried contacting Beckett to have them update the listing.

Picked up two more last week, so I guess I will show them. The 2004 Upper Deck Master Player Print is my second to that set. (Always interesting in low numbered Gonzos.)

You actually have the "vintage" parallel plate. The Upper Deck "Vintage" parallel cards were numbered to /10. Upper deck created two sets of plates; the four for the base card, and then the four for the vintage card. I like the way Upper Deck made their plates that year.

Yeah, I didn't know much about it either until I looked up the set on beckett after I bought the Brady MPP. My Tom Brady is the "yellow" base printing plate. They have a few parallels from that Upper Deck set. But they only did plates from the base, and the Vintage. That's awesome you have two of the Vintage Plates, in addition to the regular Vintage card. I actually like the look of the Vintage parallel.

Back when I PC'd Danny Woodhead pretty hardcore I was able to complete 2 of his printing plate sets-

I was really surprised the Pats let Woodhead go. It never seemed like he got a lot of plays called his way, but when he did make a play, it always seemed like it was on third down or some critical game moment.

I have only managed to complete one plate set so far, with another 4-6 sets missing one.

But at least it was of a card I was able to get the Platinum 1/1 and a Topps Vault Platinum....which was not numbered 1/1 as it was sold in 2013. (Topps only labeled blank backs 1/1 if released in the year of release...these also were usually done in full sets...at least in football).
