TIM DUNCAN ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT | San Antonio Spurs (http://www.nba.com/spurs/tim-duncan-announces-retirement)

Sad day :(

Easily one of my favorite players...

You just don't see the Modest Superstar too much anymore. Fundamentally sound and a True Team Player!! When I coached baskteball, I'd say if you're watching the NBA watch him and the Spurs...

As a fan, I'd have liked the "farewell" tour, but in the end he retired as he played, not seeking/needing the attention.

Glad I got to watch his whole career!!

Greatest PF I ever saw play. When I was young and he was at Wake Forest, I couldn't stand him. He was so boring. He didn't do anything cool. No highlights.

Now, his entire career is a highlight. I guess as you mature, you appreciate greatness over flash.

So thankful I got to watch his entire career. I'll miss him.

Total sadness, but somewhat expected.

Easily my favorite player, and the savior of basketball in SA.

What a great player. A Hall of Fame legend. I will never forget the game I attended in Memphis back in 2002 when the Spurs won in overtime over the Grizzlies. I had a seat right next to the pathway leading to the locker room and right after the game ended I extended my arm out hoping for a high five from a player. As the players started to exit to the locker room Tim Duncan looked up at me and gave me a high five as he exited. It was one of the coolest memories I have ever had at a sporting event.

This makes me feel old... since I remember watching the draft in 97

When Tim Duncan entered NBA...
- Kawhi was 6
- LeBron was in 7th grade
- Peyton had not yet been drafted
- MJ had yet to win his 6th title 7m

Thank you Timmy for being sooooo great. I will miss you.

But you deserve your retirement. You won everything you had to win (except Olympia).

One of my all time favs. Figured it was time, he wasn't much of a factor in the play offs. Can't keep up with small lineups anymore. Obviously first ballot, HOF in five years. What a fantastic career "The Big Fundamental" had.

P.S. We need more threads on this. ;)

As a Lakers fan I always wanted to hate Timmy... but he was too great a player and person to do so. Just pure class and an inspiration.

a few weeks ago i was thinking this and started bidding on Duncan Chrome RC's but didn't win any. oh well. Will they see an Iverson type spike?

Tim Duncan has participated in more playoff wins than all but 6 NBA franchises.

I think the most amazing thing I saw was that he never DIDN'T go to the playoffs. That is crazy.

Nope, he goes out there and does his job, every day.

So glad that I got to see him play at the Alamodome when I was a kid and once again last season at the AT&T Center. He is the definition of sportsmanship, class, and modesty. He is the epitome of the Spurs organization. Best power forward of all time. Sad to see him go but we all knew it was coming and it is likely the right decision not only for himself but for the team as well. I hope to see him involved with the Spurs in some way going forward.

Bowing out in the Tim Duncan way, no fanfare, no hoopla, and no retirement tour. It wouldn't fit him, to make an entire season about him, and not the Spurs and his teammates. He also bowed out knowing the Spurs were in good hands with Kawhi and Aldridge.

Enjoy retirement Duncan, you deserve it. You may have kicked the crap out of the Clippers a bunch of times, but you did it all with class and dignity, so I couldn't really hate you.

Hobby related question here. I have a nice early Duncan autograph I'd like to sell on auction. Should I list it as a 3 day or a 7 day? I don't typically have cards that I feel are "time sensitive" and am open to suggestions.

From the 16 threads created on this topic I guess I'll respond to this one lol. Great way to go out near the top. What a legend. One of the best big men to play the game

It was cool finding out he's a car head and enjoys modifying old schools and imports. Great way to enjoy his retirement with all that money he's accumulated.

Greatest player of his generation. Greatest power forward of all time. He's done it all.

I see Pop is heading a press conference and Duncan won't be addressing the media. That's TD in a nutshell.

An absolute legend.

What? No retirement tour?

TD still being the anti-Kobe in every sense except on-court achievements.

One of the best ever to lace up.

Man, someone has to have a Tim Duncan 'That-wasn't-a-foul!' gif.

As much as I loved watching Duncan from Wake through the NBA, he sure did cry a lot.

I guess all superstars cry a lot, but he had the best face when a foul was called on him. ha

Always had great respect for him. Not just a great player, and a total team player/winner, but a class act as well. No drama, no drugs, no domestic abuse, no nut punching...just quiet dominance and championships.

Class act and played the game with great humility. Mad respect to one of the greatest PFs to ever play the game.

I don't think this will sink in for a while... As a Spurs fan I cannot thank Timmy enough for all he has done for the Spurs and us fans... It has been so easy supporting the Spurs over the years, due to the pure class of the organisation... Man, this is a sad day for Spurs fan, but one to also be very proud about... What a journey, what a career.... The Greatest Spur EVER, and on of the greatest the league has seen... All the best.... Legend!

Was sad when DR retired, now I'm sad again. But, I truly didn't expect him to play much longer. There is only so much your body can take playing for that many years.

Timmy! So many years of joy he has brought to the city of San Antonio and the NBA. Respect, class, integrity, brilliance all while having so much fun! He brought it all! My absolute favorite player to watch and support these last 19 years! Sad for us, happy for him!
