The Celtics are rumored to be close to making a big trade, according to Sean Deveney of The Sporting News.
After striking out on a big draft day deal, the Celtics are rumored to be exploring trades for Russell Westbrook or Blake Griffin. Any trade would likely involve one or both of the Celtics upcoming Brooklyn picks, but there's no fire to accompany this smoke just yet so we'll have to continue to update what sounds like a developing situation.

Was signing Horford not a big move? I think the Celtics have to be the 2nd best team to the Cavs right now in the East and I'm not sure there is any trade they can make that lets them jump the Cavs unless they only traded future picks. Keep this team together this season.

Rumor is they're targeting Blake in a 3-team deal.
Jason Pratt reiterates that the ''common thread'' in these rumors is that the Celtics don't want to trade the Brooklyn picks, so how does a deal get done? It doesn't, if the other team is smart.
Boston is trying to get a superstar without giving up anything. I don't blame them, but you can compile assets for exactly how long, Danny, before you finally cash in your chips for a prize?
"Future picks" don't win you championships.

Word is that Boston hasn't been in talks with OKC about Russ. The ''big name'' is Blake, and they still aren't willing to give up those Brooklyn picks.

This right here. Some Celtics fans call it the Danny Paradox: Making the right moves in anticipation of a huge move that hadn't happened yet.
At some point, they'll have to realize they can't have the best of both world and go all-in. A Westbrook-Jimmy-Horford team with good role players all around have the ability to beat Cleveland.
