The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly done this week what everyone expected them to do: Fire Wade Phillips. Bill Jones of CBS-11 in Dallas reports the Cowboys head coach was fired on Monday after his team suffered a humiliating 45-7 loss to the Packers on Sunday Night Football.
This move was expected by many as multiple reports surfaced following the game that Phillips was unlikely to make it through the week. Phillips' certainly deserved this fate after the Cowboys started the season 1-7.
Last week Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Phililps would remain on as head coach for the rest of the season but I'm not sure if others, Jones included, actually believed that at the time. Jones said after the Packers game that there would be people in the organization who suffered the consequences of failing so badly on expectations this year.
Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett will take his spot, according to the CBS-11 report. Garrett has been a head coaching candidate at multiple points in his career including interviews with the Broncos and Rams over the last two years. Garrett though is one of the NFL's highest paid assistants and plenty of people expected him to be the next Cowboys head coach.

I would like to know what show your watching because im watching NFL network right now and it says nothing about that. But I hope part of that story is true meaning I hope Wade Phillips did get fired. However the other part Jason Garret taking over as interim head coach is just as bad as having wade phillips as a head coach so this still sucks. Anyways im still a cowboys fan through think and thin. GO COWBOYS!!!

They need to give the fresh QB a shot or it will just keep going downhil(still might but you never know) But this might just be a temp hire. Jerry might still be looking for a better opition.

Still hoping for Cowher. Garret is not the answer.
But leave John Gruden alone - I'm still counting on him to take over the Irish someday.

And now with a new coach and the same lazy over paid players I'm sure the Cowboys record will improve drastically.

Surpised--thought he would wait. Although I havent met them man, he seams to fit the kinda soft pushover Jerry likes--Wade, Barry and now Garrett--you dont like the strong alpha types do you Jerry? Landry-Jimmy and Parcels---
Why dont you do something productive and steal Pittsburgh D coordinator?
Funny thing is, Wade will be someones defensive coordinator next year--

Come on guys, Gman is always on top of breaking news. I saw this just a bit ago when I walked in the door. I think it is way past due. I remember what Wade did to Denver the season he was there and that was with John Elway at QB. I was like 12 years old but hes a joke. He is a Defensive coordinator at best and should be treated as such. Lucky Cowboys fans, I still have to deal with Josh Mcdownsyndrome for atleast another year because Pat Bowlen will not pay 3 head coaches at the same time

Josh needs to be black listed from the NFL, easily one of the worst coaches of all-time.

I think Garrett was part of the problem, him and penalties they couldn't get under control!!
Is'nt Wade the D coordinator? Who is doing that now?

I think they're figuring since there's really no D on the field, that at least for the rest of this year, they don't need anyone in charge of the non-existent.

They are also announcing a new name change. They will now be called the Allas Cowboys.

They have been grooming Garrett for awhile now. This is a perfect scenario for the Cowboys. They give Garrett the keys and if he turns the season around and gets the highly talented but highly unmotivated team to turn the season around and be competitive they may keep him. If the team continues on the same course then they have given him a chance to be the head man and he did not get the job done. It's not like the Cowboys don't have talent. The Cowboys can then pursue a big name coach such as Cowher etc.

It's more than just a head coach issue. With Garrett as acting coach they need to start working on the future of this team. Get some of the rookies more involved and definitely start Mcgee, see what he can do for this team since Kitna is a wash.
Also, Garrett's offensive play calling hasn't been wortha crap this season. Look at the rushing yards from last nights game..Cowboys top 3 RB's combined for like 40yrds...where the Packers FB rushed for 50yrds himself!
