View Full Version : Interesting incident on eBay

I would ask if anyone else has had this happen...but I can't imaging anyone else has.
Had an item listed on eBay for $60. Buyer makes an offer for $30. I make a counter offer for $45. Buyer does a counter offer for $48. Yes, you don't need to go back and re-read everything. Buyer made a counter offer for higher than what I had offered. Anyway, I accept and the buyer makes payment.
Noticed buyer only has 1 feedback...combined with the odd counter offer, I called eBay and raised my concern. Told them that since the buyer has 1 feedback and the way the offers worked out, I wanted them to notate my account before I ship the card that if the buyer tries to send the card back or file a claim, I wouldn't have it. They looked at my account and said not to worry and to ship the card. They would handle the situation if anything is attempted by the buyer. Item arrived couple days ago and no issues so far.
I know I said no point in asking, but has anyone else had this happen? I mean it's only $3 and not a big deal, but still pretty strange.

My best guess would be he meant to offer $38.

Thought about that, but why pay? Could easily retract offer for wrong amount. Message seller, etc.
Just interesting I guess.

Maybe something with 10% on ebay bucks? I know it's a $50 minimum to get that 10% ebay bucks? How much was shipping? $2? (Even though shipping isn't factored into ebay bucks he might have made that mistake of thinking it was).

I think I had a buyer make an offer, I countered and then they hit the BIN which was about $2 more.

I recently had someone make an offer on a card for more than I had it listed for. Some people have strange reasons for doing it.

I actually did this accidentally and fat fingered the offer on my iPhone and paid more than the counter. We got it sorted but mine was just an accident on a mobile device. But the (1) feedback makes me hesitate on this situation. Still could be a new eBayer that messed it up.

All my listings are free shipping so couldn't be that. Unless he had another $2 card to pay for

I have done it before to use an ebay coupon that had a minimum purchase amount.

Don't think eBay allows you to do that

Probably an upset buyer since your offer price was only $2 lower than your BIN price, unless we're talking about a low end card of course.

It happened and it happened back on the 7th of the month. Was only a penny more but still had the card listed at 3.99 and the guy offered 4 dollars. He wanted it as a round number he said.

I had a buyer offer me $40.. I countered $70. Then a few days later he offered me $95. Deal went smooth.

I think the BIN was $20 (which was already the lowest price of anyone), they offered $15 and I think I countered $18 and then they hit the BIN. Transaction went just fine too.

Last week, I had someone with 0 feedback buy one of my buy it now or best offer auctions at the buy it now price, didn't even bother to negotiate. I've had nothing but bad experiences with 0 feedback buyers, so it raised a red flag for me. He immediately paid though, so I sent off the item (it's a $35 item). It was received, but I haven't received feedback yet, so I'm still a little worried there could be some stupid bogus claim put in.

Yea, mine has not left feedback either, but if I count the number of times people have not left feedback I'd have an extra 1000 feedbacks so I don't think too much into that. GL though, hope it all works out and nothing comes of it.

People are dumb. How do you not realize this from being a member here for 5 years?

now if you really want a happy and potentially repeat customer, you could always partially refund the $3 and let him know how much you appreciate his business!
just a thought, i probably wouldn't even do that myself! :)!

LOL you really think they would do that. If they told you they would you got lied to. Ebay often tells people what they want to hear to get them off the phone. You also have Paypal and their CC to worry about when it comes to returns. Everything you "demanded" of them wen in one ear and out the other. What happens if the card truly gets damaged in shipping? The buyer would deserve a refund.
I would refund that 3.00 extra

You cannot block zero feedback buyers.. You can once you have their ID, but there is no block that stops them from bidding, hitting BIN or sniping. Most zeros I get are the best, I open more cases and have more issues with members with over 100 feedback.

I just tried and was not able to make an offer for more than a Fixed Price. Could have been a glitch.

I wish that was my luck...before my recent sale with a zero feedback bidder, I had a zero percent success rate of getting payment from them

Just to keep anyone who may be interested updated....no feedback from buyer yet (although he has not left feedback for anyone), but no issues so far. No claim, no anything.
