I've seen this several times before but have never heard the story behind it. They look like the pieces Beckett would slab with a card. Anyone have any other information?

My guess is that they were leftovers from slabbing cards with added jersey pieces like this one:

I think they had the option of adding GU pieces to BCCG grading orders a while back, and maybe for some reason they nixed it and sold the leftovers like this? Wish I could be of more help, but that's my thought. (although, they also misspelled 'jersey' on the label of this one -_-)

edit: I just realized you referenced these in your original post so you already know. There's also this thread but they didn't figure out much either:

edit again: found something! from an old beckett thread:

So my understanding is that these are leftover pieces from full GU jerseys that people send (sell?) to Beckett.

Thank you - that was my suspicion but I didn't have much to stand behind it!

Haha. That's awesome. I remember when Beckett was doing that. Is was around 2013. Its interesting. Have an option to have a relic encased in a graded slab and no one touches it. The same relic square in a encased in a photograph and its collectible. This is such an odd hobby we all participate in!
