Have one of Dak's Panini Origins auto RC, and was curious as to why he's wearing number 00 on it? I don't mind it much, but I'm sure it hurts its value a bit with collectors.

I believe early photos show many players without a correct number. I think it's a combination of the player not always having a number assigned as well as an excuse to give Panini more patch pieces.

Its been happening years now... cards get pushed up before the draft happends so companies don't know what jersey # they will wear so they just photoshop a double Zero. This is why you will find this mostly in early releases like Topps Inception, Origins, topps Finest, etc etc etc.

He was not at the rookie photo shoot if I am not mistaken. Those who were typically has a number not the 00 jersey

He was definitely at the shoot.
Panini went to press at least a week earlier than they should have needed to, and as a result a good portion of the player base did not have jersey numbers assigned. NFLP and NFLPA require 00 after the first year of inception used a lot of college numbers and they got pissed off.

This also allows them to have cards already made before the photoshoot. So they can bring the cards and have the guys sign on card while they are there.

If I recall correctly, around the time of the Rookie Premiere Shoot, Panini also posted a picture of the players all sitting at a table signing Origins cards.

Thanks for the info everyone. It's interesting that some players in the origin set do have their correct jersey number. Maybe they already knew that was going to be their jersey number at that point?

Correct, which is why a lot of the guys who were top-of-the-draft players had their numbers.

if i'm not mistaken, this was common on Topps Inception too. Which, if we're being honest, is what Origins is replacing.

Yep. Some of the bigger name picks get their jersey numbers right away so teams can start selling jerseys.
