Really enjoyed it . It's the saving private Ryan of the series and 3rd act was just edge of your seat tense . K-2SO is a standout

I took my boys last night and we really enjoyed it. I do think it has more of an adult theme but I think the characters and concept were spot on. We saw it in a terrible theater so I will be back again by myself to take it all in.

I've been avoiding reading any reviews so I don't spoil anything, but I'm glad to hear you guys all enjoyed it. My wife and I have tickets to see it tomorrow morning - I can't wait!

It didn't all come together for me as a good story. I got bored after awhile, but if you are a Star Wars super-fan, there's lots of goodies in there to enjoy.
There was an interesting use of CGI that I found kind of weird, but maybe I'm old fashioned.

This is the Star Wars movie we've been waiting for.
Star Wars should be just that...Star Wars.
Im a huge SW wars fan and this is easily one of the best Sci-Fi films I've seen.
Truly a cinematic masterpiece.

I just saw this. To me it is hands down the best Star Wars film produced.
Just really thought it was above the rest (Empire Strikes Back being #2).
FA 1 to me was a bit of a disappointment as it seemed to following another familar movie but I look for good things to come in the next two.

Truly a cinematic masterpiece.
The action/battle scenes(which was most of the movie) were very well done, I agree, but I think this movie desperately needed some character development.
There are specific examples I'd like to give for why I feel the film was lacking, but I'm going to wait, because I know a lot folks have yet to see it.
If you're a huge Star Wars fan you will have fun, no doubt. :coffee:

SPOILER:
I caught an early showing and heard a bunch of little kids behind me say " this is the worst ending ever!" (Final beach scene).

More character development would be nice but in a 2 hour, stand alone movie I don't think they have that luxury. They need to introduce and make us care about Jyn, Cassian, K2, Bodhi, Chirrut, and Baze.
To a lesser extent they have to introduce us to and help us understand the motivations of Galen, Krennic, Saw Gerrera, etc...
Would I have liked to know more about Chirrut and Baze? Sure. Would I like to know why Bodhi defected from the Empire? Of course. It's tough though in the confines of two hours. These stand alone films don't have the luxury that the episode films have of building off one another. We don't know much about Rey, but we'll learn more in Ep 8. In Ep 4, we thought we knew Luke but later we found out who his father is and also his sister.
It's hard to flesh out characters fully in one film, especially when you have a full team of characters, without the main mission story suffering.

I think it's a problem with the genre(including the super-hero movies), and I know it's not easy. With this movie, I believe they had more flexibility to tell a good, character driven story, because of the fact that it's a one-off.
The fact of the matter is that they know what their fans want: action, SFX, a dash of comic relief(insert droid here, who I really liked!), more action, and then lots and lots of fan-service, and I think that's been the key for these new SW movies, fan service(i.e. - Vader's cameo, which I believe isn't really a spoiler...).
And, as I can see by comments here and elsewhere, I'm in the minority, but I love movies(lust as much as comics!) and I see a lot. This was not a great film IMHO, and I believe it could've been, but then again if it ain't broke(box-office I assume is CHA-CHING!) why fix it!? :coffee:

For me I knew nothing about the story line but was enthralled from start to finish.
Could they have made it a two parter with more character development? Maybe? Would have been just as good.

I have to admit that I was a little disappointed. Not a bad movie, but I expected it to be better.

I think they banked on people who are sweaty about Star Wars to read the prequel book catalyst which explains all the relationships but maybe should have had the opening crawl to explain some things

That's a very good point, I think you're right.
I didn't have a problem following the plot, that's the whole movie plot/action. What the movie was missing IMHO was some of the personality that the original films had and the relationships(like the sexual tension between Leia/Han/Luke); character & story were lacking in Rogue One. The secondary characters were fine, my gripe is mainly with how Felicity Jones & Diego Luna's characters were handled.

My guess is that they figured why bother and let's just get to the end because we're never going to see them again

I would love to see a comic series explaining all of the relationships and how Jyn got to where she is. Top stack no doubt.

I LOVED IT! It was hard to hold out for Sunday but went in spoiler free.
I hope they revisit some of these characters. I read that Felicity Jones has a 2 movie contract. I also read that Saw Gurerra is confirmed for Rebels. Maybe we'll see how he gets he's robotic legs.
I loved the cameos, easter eggs, and man the digital work on those two specific characters were amazing.
No nit picking here - that was the movie I wish AOTC was!

Catalyst doesn't delve into Jyn too much. If I'm not mistaken, it ends when she's a toddler. I'd like to see/ hear the story of what happens after her father is taken away and she is cared for by Saw.

Saw the movie over the weekend with my two younger boys. My oldest and I enjoyed it. My 4 yr old, not so much. He got more enjoy tinkering with the DC Lego puzzle in the lobby, lol.

It ends with her at the age she is in the flashback where Galen talks to her while Krennic is visiting them in the flashback . Definitely could see marvel doing a mini of Saw training her

Why would there be a need for more character development??? SPOILER ALERT ...
More character development would have been a complete and utter waste of time! It was a great movie and filled in what was needed to. Essentially, it explains how they got the plans and why they were never seen again. That's it. You need character development for that?
EDIT: K2-SO was awesome!

Why would there be a need for more character development???
The kind of character development I mean isn't just about more background/origin story of the character. I'm referring to personality, relationships with other characters, dialogue that doesn't just push the story along, and that extra "something" that gives the audience an emotional connection to the movie, outside of just "it's Star Wars, so I love it".
In a weird sort of way the original trilogy had an advantage over the newer films in that they couldn't just rely on awesome SFX/CGI and nostalgia to keep audiences entertained. They had to actually make a well rounded movie with suspense, intrigue, and interesting characters. The ground breaking effects(at the time) were just one part of that tasty space opera enchilada! :coffee:

I liked it. Might even see it again in theaters just for another critical review.
I saw it yesterday and the whole family enjoyed it. It is a bit annoying though in that the need to explain away plot holes from the first movie released is the main focus of the whole movie. The last bit of cgi was unnecessary as well.

Im hoping to finally go see this this weekend. So timeline wise this takes place between Episode 3 and 4.. so Rogue is the first time Vader is in full costume (other then the brief glimpse at the end of Episode 3) correct?

Thought it was decent but liked Force Awakens better. The CGI face was much more noticeable at the end scene than with the other character they had in there.

Watched it yesterday. Actually nodded off a few times during the middle but I was super tired so I don't think it was the movie.. but still. I think I enjoyed Force Awakens better but overall it was a great movie.. I was hoping to see more of Vader but that end scene was great.. I need more of that.
