One of my comic resolutions for this year was to start a pickup thread on here and participate more so here goes. A little about me as a collector. Last year was a big year for me getting my collection going. I am only three years back into the hobby. The first two years I spent mostly putting together a run of Uncanny Xmen from 143-544 and an Xmen Vol 2 full run which were what got me into comics as a kid. Thought that might of been it but caught the bug along the way and have definitely found a hobby that I enjoy. This last year i've been picking up a few bronze keys and got into slabbed books pretty big (for me anyway). I am mostly focused on Signature Series Books of Cover Artists. A lot of my pickups are cover artist based with some of my favorites being Adam Hughes, Scott Campbell, Jim Lee, Frank Cho, Artgerm, Jenny Frison, Del Otto, Ryan Sook. I also got to attend my first Con last year at Baltimore. Thanks to Indy for helping me get some great books this year and everyone on here for their love of the hobby.

First I figured I would post a couple of my highlights from this past year. First Are two of my favorites which are two commissions I got on here from Chadwick Haverland.

And here was my first go at actually submitting to CGC when I got some great books signed by Adam Hughes at Baltimore. Not sure what I missed on the GI Joe. I still can't see why it graded so low.

Nice stuff so far. Love that Haverland Harley Quinn.
Some great SS slabs there. Grading can be tough, and signature series adds the wildcard of the book being handled by somebody else and not the ideal environment to inspect afterwards.
If you can't see any external wear, my best guess would be that you have a tear on one or some of the interior pages. Too bad. It is very annoying that CGC doesn't provide any greater notes to non members.

What does Adam Hughes charge for a quick sketch nowadays?

Thanks. Had a lot of fun putting those together. got really lucky finding a great copy of 266 cheap. One goal for this year is to get that slabbed. Also I knew Campbell's 510 cover but didn't know who he was then or any of his other work. Getting that was one of the main things probably that got me going on collecting his stuff as well as other cover artists. Making time this year to read xmen all the way through. Had to pick up Marvel Unlimited for everything up to 142.

It was $40 at Baltimore. Some people rip on them but I thought it was great watching him knock out a sketch and thought $ was reasonable. Really loved the way the Captain Marvel came out and the background.

Thanks. I found this board actually looking for a way to get a commission from him after seeing the first one he did for someone.
Yeah I figure it must have been something inside. Lesson learned, I kind of went off of the mindset if the outside was good the inside was too now see it pays to be thorough.

You're lucky. Hughes wasn't doing any sketching at NYCC. At least that is what his wife told me. Would have loved to get one from him.
I usually am not very thorough on the interiors of moderns. TypI call if the corners snd edges look good, there is nothing to worry about. Interior pages crease and tear much easier than the covers do, so you have to at least check.

Here is some Hughes mail day stuff. Love both of these covers but they both need to go into a pile of stuff I need to send to Indy for pressing.

Not great. Good amount of tears along the cover spine and the cover is detached. Figured worth the pick up for a couple of bucks plus It was one I've been wanting to read.

I've always wanted to get a quick sketch on one of those. I'd have bought it too

Some ebay mail day stuff from this week. The first was a Campbell I remember missing in a $.50 box back when I was getting started. The second one I was thrilled to pick up as I figured It was out of my price range. I missed a 9.6 before it jumped up but thought this come at a decent auction price for a slabbed 9.8. Might just be because its CBCS. I did think about getting it reslabbed by CGC, not sure if I would get a signature first. I was just wondering if anyone had some knowledge about whether CGC would honor the CBCS grade if I took it to them to crack at a con or if they would just regrade. Just afraid of loosing the 9.8 either because they may want to show that they are more strict graders or just having a different set of eyes catch something.
