I wasn't certain where to post this but since most of the items in the box seem to be baseball I went with this section, if this isn't the correct section I am sorry.

I was contacted by someone through my blog asking for some help identifying a box his friend has and is trying to sell. I am guessing that it is one of those "Late Night Specials" that were sold by somebody like Don West on QVC. I told him that I would look in to what I could find out and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the picture the guy sent me:

I found one that was part of a lot auction at Mears Auction but they only list it as a minor league factory set in the lot details, it is on the left of the picture.

I have already responded to him about the box, explaining the Junk Wax era and the box damage doesn't help, hoping to get him to understand that "$399.99 Value" sticker is not realistic. I asked him to check inside to see what has water damage and to let me know if the cards are packs, boxes or random loose cards and I also asked if he has checked to see which autographed ball he has and what condition it is in.

I am not really a book value person but I think that is what he is looking for, I know I could have pointed him to eBay and told him to do his homework but I would like to help where I can.

Classic Best. Looks like mostly 1992 stuff.

Worthless. Unless you have a Shaq or Griffey auto... which you very likely don't.

The blood stains may add value...depending on whose blood.

I found a similar one in my attic a couple of months ago. It had quite a few minor league team sets still in the wrapping, so I sent them in to COMC. There actually is a market for minor league individual cards, since they weren't as mass produced as the nationally sold sets. There is no extra value in the packaging, so he's going to make more money just by opening it and seeing what he has.

Early 90s Classic / Best was mass produced.

Early 90s Classic / Best was mass produced.

It sure was! I still have a couple of boxes and they are basically worthless.

Doesn't mean there's not a market for it. You have super collectors, team collectors, and then the 3rd grade teachers that played a single year at A ball before leaving the game. And then his kids or nephews or friends or students. Obviously they're not worth more than $50 for the box, but that doesn't mean it's worthless.

Based on the picture, it appears to at least have 2 years of Classic baseball (1992 Classic Best and 1993 Classic) plus the Classic 4-Sport.

He did open the box and sent some pictures, nothing inside was damaged by the water and the ball is Sheffield.
