I found someone who has a game worn jersey that I am considering buying. However, on the day it was authenticated, the player did not play in that game. This is a home jersey, and not one of the special occasion ones. So my question is, does anyone know how many home jerseys players go through every season? I'm wondering if this jersey was worn throughout the season before the date it was authenticated, but they only dated it for the last game it was worn. Any help would be appreciated.

Depends on the player the higher name players usually wear more than a utility guy.

Until the 80s players generally got one set in the spring and one after the all-star game, but that's changed. By then, some players, like Rose or Perry, knew their gear was valuable and would change jerseys halfway through a game and sell the extras. But these days, they probably get a new uni every month as a matter of course, and extras on demand. Some guys like wearing a piece of gear till it falls apart, some change their gear every day. So, there's no real answer. And no way to be sure that guy wore that shirt on that day, or any other day, unless you can photo match it.

Went on a clubhouse tour of Angel Stadium led by the Angels Clubhouse Manager. I asked this very question... I was surprised his answer was only 3-5 jerseys a year. This is apparently how many the Angels typically go through a year (i.e. wear & tear). Not sure exactly how many more are made and stashed away.

There was a monthly column in Beckett in 1999 if I remember correctly about the top collectibles to own for super-collectors. The blurb about game used jerseys mentioned players only being issued up to six jerseys per season. Seems reasonable! Interesting topic, need to track down a player!

I went on the tour of Ranger stadium several years ago and in the locker room someone asked about equipment and how often they get new hats (I know it's different) but the club house guys said "They get whatever they want when they want it"
You think if Mike Trout wanted a new Jersey every game the Angels would say no? I'm sure it may be different for the 25th man on the roster but the top guys can get them on demand I bet.

I was at a golf tournament this past weekend and someone asked Josh Beckett about his jerseys and he said something to the effect of "I don't know how they have jersey cards. I kept all of my jerseys."
Makes you wonder...

Damn, I would have thought 20-25 a year. I was way off the mark.

It may still be 15-20. If you go through 4-5 Away Jerseys, 4-5 Road Jerseys, 4-5 Alternate Jerseys, etc. It could still add up to about 20.

I know in basketball Jordan's last few years he wore new uniform and shoes every game.I also think lemieux and Gretzky did also. In hockey and football up until the mid 90s the jerseys were loaded with repairs. They were stitched up. Once had a chris simon jerseys with over 100 inches of repairs sewn on.

Factor in the jerseys from holiday and promotional games: father's/mother's day/4th of July/Jackie Robinson, throwback, and the alternates you mentioned. Has to be in the 15-20 range.
