I don't mean to be rude, but this questions has endless answers. We'll need more information from you.
You always have to be selective in the storage of older boxes, so the cards do not stick or have any paper loss.
What is your definition of "decent"?
Are you looking for a rare 90s insert?
What is your budget/price range?
How many boxes are you looking at?
Where would you be purchasing from?

Just off the top of my head, I think of the "off-years" of Upper Deck products. The years that have awful rookie classes... like 1999-2000, 2000-2001, 2001-02, 2002-03, 2004-05, 2005-06, for example. These tend to run cheaper than the big years with important rookie chase cards.
SP authentic, SP Signature, SPx, SP Game-used, Upper Deck (regular), etc. are some.
I'm sure others have more detailed explanations, but these are what pop into my head.

why not just buy singles instead of throwing away money on wax?

I agree with you on most of this, but UD wax from 97-09' is drying up and prices are climbing......

03-04 Exquisite Case or 86-87 Fleer Case

If price is of no consequence I would suggest a couple case of 03 / 04 exquisite. You are bound to pull one if you break enough of the product... and if you miss you could still walk away w/ some stellar cards!
I don't know that a "Nicer" Jordan Autograph exists than the ones that can be found in this set.

Also the Lebron RC Patch Auto is worth a couple K so that would be a nice consolation card :D

Just get a 99-00 UD Victory box. Not to expensive and you'll get several Jordan's.

Gotta echo what Birdmandig said, you have to be a lot more specific, OP.
90% of the time you're better off buying a single anyway. Jordan is overpriced for sure, but so are most of the boxes with good sets that feature him.
