Print Run on Donruss Optic Preview

Does anyone know if Panini has released any information as far as the print run goes on these? I pulled one a Lebron from a single box. Didn't know it was valuable untill long after the break happened lol. Pretty nice! I am flirting with the idea of adding Simmons and Curry to the PC.
Any insight woulf be much appreciated. I have learned that they are "case" hits which is cool.

Yes sir. All i know is they fall one per case. Pretty nice hit onna box that was an after thought on a lcs trip :).

These are really cool cards but how is it a "preview" when there are 100 cards in the set? There were only 200 cards in the entire Donruss set. A preview would be like a 10-15 card set, like the 97-98 Topps Chrome and Chrome Refractors Previews (which have held value tremendously over the years).

The Optic Football is really nice. I opened some of that. Definitely Topps Chrome-ish.

I like the card alott... but I doubt it will hold its current value (looks like 80ish) unless it comes to light that only X amount of copies exist.. and "X" is around ten.

I also wish the set was smaller. Really doubt that they will go the way of the old topps chrome previews and be worth a bunch in the future... but I have been wrong before.


Hopefully they change the picture for the actual optic release.

I don't think a lot of Donruss is getting busted, but these cards rarely show up. I'm waiting for another Brandon Ingram one to emerge.

Once a case is also 20 boxes and if there's 100 different players...the print run can't be very high for these.

Maybe... If they use the same image and it comes to light that each player has (just throwing out a number) 75 copies of this card then... yea.


I am hoping that they use a different image and that they are ssp. We may never know an exact print run but we will know soon enough if they switch up the image.

I am REALLY looking forward to the Optic Release now either way!

I picked up the Marc Gasol as soon as it came on eBay. Either way, it's nice to have in the collection for the price I paid.

Sorry for the Necro bump but I am sifting through multiple boxes of nothing but 2016 optic and was wondering about these preview cards. Is there a checklist of everyone that had a Preview parallel? Do all the previews have an orange back like the Stephen Curry preview?

To answer your first two questions, not all of the backs are orange. Here is the checklist:

You can look at the outer edges of all the cards and flip through them pretty quick. Notice how the stripes on the previews are filled in with one of the team colors. The regular base are all silver or gray there.

The only drawback to that advice is that some teams like the Spurs or the Nets might use gray for their team color. In that case, you can flip them all over and look for the PREVIEW label on the back instead.

I've collected nearly half of this set... some of the cards I've never even seen.

Pretty crazy chart. So rare and not something I would have thought people were speculating on.

There are only 11 PSA 9 and 3 PSA 10. It’s been over a year since anything other than a PSA 9 has sold, but a PSA 10 would probably be down 75% from the highs if sold today.

I was watching that last night. Someone got an absolute steal. Those things are ghosts. A Curry PSA 10 ended not too long ago as well for ~4-5k, I believe. I know there's a member here trying to complete the set, but that'll be harder than trying to complete the PMG green set, IMO.

Not sure it’s a steal when it was a re-list of a copy that did basically the same number two weeks ago.

It’s just crazy to see it fall so hard. The refractor-less design has always turned me off, but I know this set is heavily collected by a handful of people. I guess everyone has their copy and isn’t interested in adding another?

I really like this set especially the Curry which I think has a great photo. Eventually love to land some of the key players in it. Too bad Giannis, Kobe, Duncan aren't on the checklist though. And yeah price-wise it's def getting whacked for sure! Non-shiny base-looking sssp card, for some the former attributes turn them off. Personally I kind of like the concept especially since it is so rare for Panini.

I'd be happy to pay what the last Lebron went for to add it back to my collection.
It's not every day that I pull a card that sold for 100× what the box cost lol. Sometimes the "story" is just as cool as the card itself... and I always really liked the card.

Not feeling too bad about prices since I got my LeBron for $100 a long time ago, and it graded out PSA 10.

LeBron, Curry, Durant, Brown, Ingram, Simmons... most of the big players, I have. It's the commons that almost never come up are and hard to find.

That's the issue and why I believe it's infinitely more difficult to complete this set than say, the PMG green set. Sure, they were chromium cards inserted into a paper stock set, but really, they are fairly plain-looking cards. Most of the commons are stuffed inside 5000ct boxes - guaranteed.

Let me know when you give up and sell the Bosh (w/ Giannis) though!

You make several great points.

It's easy to find a LeBron, Curry, Brown, etc. Just have to pay up for them

I for the life of me can't fine a Dragon Bender or Al Horford available. What's insane is that COMC has only ever had 39 of the 100 of these cards submitted to their site.

Again, I'm at about half of the cards owned, and my rate of new pickups has slowed to about 2-3 per year.

The only Harrison Barnes I've seen in the past 2-3 years was in a lot that sold almost immediately. Really would like to add one to the PC.
