I bought a statue on eBay that was brand new in the box. When I received it everything looked to be sealed as it should be. When I took the statue out of the box there was one part that had been broken off. So I contacted the seller and told him what had happened and he asked if it could be fixed and offered a partial refund of $10. I told him I would prefer to return it than take the partial and have to repair it myself. Now he is telling me he can exchange it for me but seems reluctant to allow me to return it.

I didn't want to just go straight through eBay and initiate the INAD return without discussing it with him first, in an attempt to be someone courteous. However, at this point he almost seems to be fighting me returning it and is instead trying to get me to exchange it. Is there something I am missing here? His listing also said he accepts returns. Should I continue to try and reason with him or should I just start the return process?

Less is better, just start the process.

Just start the process my girls friend sells tons of items on eBay over a thousand a year if you say you take returns you have too no exceptions. He just doesn't want to open a claim and if he doesn't change his tune I say leave a bad review

If you return it to him, he has to pay for your return shipping, and then likely again to get the replacement item shipped back to you. If you go for the replacement yourself, the company will probably cover shipping. On something like a statue, you getting it replaced yourself saves him a bunch of money and he doesn't have to track anything internaly.
