I knew it'd be an incredibly difficult task for him to make the Giants this year, but, when your favorite player retires, and you never got to watch him play live, in-person, it hurts.

Nothing but the best wishes for him and his family.

Obligatory 'I had no idea he was still in the league' post.

He was on the Richmond Flying Squirrels' Roster for this coming year. I just viewed it the other day and thought, "I wonder if that is the JOSH JOHNSON"

No thoughts of suicide now Dave.... always like him as a ball player. Sucks when injuries deter great talent. Happens far to often.

Pretty sure this guy never let up a run against the Mets.

Heard this news, and thought of you Brother. Sorry for your loss.

When he was healthy I always thought he had top tier stuff. I'm not talking top tier in his league, I mean the entire league. It's always tough to see one of your favorites struggle with health issues, especially when they're that talented. I go through the same thing almost every year with Tulowitzki.

My very first player collection. Started in 2004 when I was a young lad at the University of Miami working for the Marlins.

Sad to hear. He had all the talent in the world but his arm just wasn't along for the rid. Such a shame.

Stinks. Thought he had a chance to be good.

To be honest from you post the biggest surprise is he was 32. I would have said 28
