Wow. Great deal for TB. The Dodgers get their 2B. (Safe to say Dozier isn't going anywhere now.)

BREAKING: #Rays have agreed to trade Forsythe to #Dodgers for DeLeon. Will be announced soon.

De Leon is near Major League ready, and will eventually get Smyly's spot. Probably not right away, though.

I feel bad for the guy who was trying to sell the red ref auto of De Leon in the baseball B/S/T the other day. He had the right idea trying to move it.

My first reaction was wow, everyone said De Leon was the kind of prospect that brings in Chris Sale and top line talent. Instead he brings in Forsythe, a utility player and a rental.
Interesting to say the least. Good for Tampa. Controllable assets are key.

Really liked DeLeon but Dodgers needed a 2b I preferred Dozier but after getting rid of Cotton, Holmes & Montas last trade deadline for the rental of Hill & Reddick I guess the Dodgers bargaining chips were limited. Dodgers seem to continue to get rid of their pitching prospects which kinda upsets me because I'm tired of them signing guys like Kazmir,Anderson, McCarthy, etc. who can't get them 5 inning let alone a full season

Odd that they wouldn't resign Utley. Forsythe doesn't look like much of an upgrade.
I guess the Dodgers lineup could significantly help him

01-23-2017, 07:18 PM
Yeah, this one bothers me. With the injury risks and how last year went I thought Deleon could slot in the 5th place all year.
Lets just say Yadier Alvarez and Walker Buehler are going nowhere. They need to keep them for future. Cotton, Deleon, Holmes and Montas all gone in half a year

Really don't understand this trade. Just resign utley. Not like Forsyth will put them over the edge to get to the World Series.

Eaton, and its not that close IMO.
Forsythe may not be the missing piece to winning a WS, but he is a significant upgrade over Utley. Forsythe's WAR according to baseballreference.com is 8.4 since 2015. Utley's is just 2.4. I also suspect that playing in a much stronger and deeper Dodgers lineup will benefit Forsythe more than people expect.
All that being said, I probably would not have done this trade due to the Dodgers lack of pitching depth and consistency outside of Kershaw.

And yet another example of how prospecting is really just a game of hot potato. Keep passing around until the music stops and hope you're not the one left holding the bag. Those still holding DeLeon just lost half their value - at minimum.
And yes, I know the most "skilled" prospectors dumped DeLeon a while ago, but it doesn't change the fact that many just lost big.

Dee Gordon for Andrew Heaney... Andrew Heaney for a aging Howie Kendrick.... Now the dodgers trade Jose De leon for a Decent 2b but they could of had a much better 2b if they just kept gordon.

Ditto to all of this. So sad to see Holmes move - now deLeon - total bummer. Hope Forsythe is decent enough. We needed a second baseman.

01-23-2017, 08:04 PM
They really don't have any room for De Leon after adding Hill and they needed a 2nd baseman. Kershaw, Hill, Maeda, Urias, McCarthy, Kazmir and Ryu. I wonder if the Dodgers go with a 6 man rotation. If you ask me, they should strongly consider it. Maeda ran out of gas last year, Urias threw roughly 120 innings this year, Hill, McCarthy, Kasmir and Ryu have a pretty lengthy injury history and Kershaw has had reoccurring back issues.
With that said, I think they should have given Calhoun a shot and held onto De Leon.

I think Forsythe is quite underrated, but the Rays definitely pulled off a steal to get de Leon for one year of his services.

I think this is a rare trade that fits both sides well.
Sure the Dodgers can lose if De Leon really breaks out but if he ends up as a solid no 3 starter, that's not a bad deal for a good second baseman who can play around the diamond a bit and has 1 year + a relatively cheap option.
Throw into it the escalating prospect cost of acquiring MLB talent and possibly leaving a door open for Calhoun in 2 years and I think it works out well enough

Isn't it two years of Forsythe? Above average 2nd baseman for a pitching prospect. That team is close to a title and De Leon wouldn't even be in the playoff rotation. I like it for both sides.

Crazy trade. The Dodgers will probably land Otani whenever he is posted, but I got to assume De Leon was worth more.

De Leon has some nice upside but De Jong could pan out better and should at least be a solid #4 type. I Agree that they sold too low on Jose though.

Annoyed...I still have a couple JDL cards including that red. I hate this trade not just from a collecting POV but I think JDL has more upside and the cost of premium pitching is much higher than a bat. As a dodger fan we need depth because I don't trust half our guys to stay healthy.

Until Ryan Brett is ready.
You really think Brett? I think Daniel Robertson projects more as a 2B or 3B (blocked by Longo, obviously), so it'll be until Robertson is ready. I'd expect a Franklin/Beckham platoon at 2nd.
Also, the Rays may now potentially sign a RH bat who could play at 1B, thus allowing Miller to take some ABs at 2nd. There's also a glut of corner outfield talent, so I wouldn't necessarily be surprised to see Souza, Jr. or Dickerson take some grounders and try out 1B, especially with Ramos requiring DH ABs to start the year. Rays are known for liking defensive versatility. I'm also assuming Mallex Smith will start off the season in AAA.

I think it is all about Deleon's shoulder. Dodgers dont think he will last as a starter.
Twins hired one of the minor league administrators from the Dodgers. He is very familiar with Deleon. Of course, it is possible the twins overplayed their hand.
Nice article today on the trade at Fangraphs. Both second basemen within one war of each other.
Time will tell on this one. Just like the Cubs giving up Gleyber for Chapman. It is a win now move.

The Twins wanted a lot more for Dozier. The Dodgers' final offer for Dozier, according to multiple sources, was DeLeon, Alvarez, and a PTBNL rumored to be somewhere between 15 and 25 on their prospect rankings.

I have been following Dozier trade watch 2016-17 very closely and haven't seen anything saying the dodgers offered Deleon and Alvarez and a PTBNL . If this was offered can you share a link?

I like the deal for both sides. Forsythe is quite a nice player and is very underpaid for 2 yrs. JDL was a fairly high risk prospect with a #3 ceiling, but a good chip for TB.
I prefer Forsythe to Dozier honestly.

Well, I should say that considering the price I prefer the Forsythe trade to the dozier trade as proposed (I heard jdl, brick Stewart, 3rd lower level prospect). I do prefer forsythe's D and his position flexibility! No doubt dozier has better power.

Saw it on Twinsdaily, Twitter account DozierLADtrade, and one of the many Dodger blogs I read (don't recall which one).

Read Twins Daily "Los Angeles refused to include one of Julio Urias, Yadier Alvarez, or Walker Buehler"
I did see it on Dozier2LADTrade but that is just some guy who doesn't mention his sources and in my opinion is not reputable whatsoever. There's absolutely no way the Twins turn down a Alvarez/Deleon centered deal.

no way would Alvarez be included in the offer for Dozier, he projects as more successful than DeLeon and is virtually untouchable at this point
