Any word on this? As to when and if it's releasing? Anyone pumped for it, any thoughts on if it will be as well received as it has been in football? Seems to be the closest thing to a true chrome replacement, colored parallels should look excellent against this years' design, possibility of on card rookie autos etc...

Can't wait. I'd lock in asap before price goes up.

If football is any indication this stuff is going to do really well.

I actually got word that it was coming sometime in April but I'm not sure how reliable the info was. I'd guess it came from some murmurs in the wholesale community if it's true though.

Any predictions as to what it will do to prizm box prices and singles?

Prizm will still remain high. If Optic does on-card RC Autos I think that may become the best RC Auto to get, right there with Next Day Autos (these cards would not compare to RPAs though so NT and Immaculate would still be good).
Prizm would be the non-auto king that it still is. Gold Parallels in Optic wouldn't touch what they do in Prizm.
Unlike football, Basketball hasn't had a Topps Chrome card in 8 years. 3 years after Chrome went away is when Prizm came into the fold to replace it on the basketball end. On the football side of things Prizm was around and never looked at as a replacement, because it coexisted with Chrome for 4 years.
Prizm already had established it's identity for both football and basketball.
In basketball Prizm was a Chrome replacement.
In football Prizm was a Chrome knock off.
When Optic came around many viewed that as the NEW Chrome (because again, Prizm already had an identity).
Long winded, but in short I would LOVE Optic in basketball! It could only surpass Prizm auto's though in terms of sales, and that's only if they're on-card.

I don't think it surpasses prizm. I think it end up killing Select if it gains traction.

I'd like to believe that Donruss - Donruss Optic could become what Topps - Topps Chrome was. Just hopefully with on card autos, though that's doubtful, at least having the major guys on card would be great. The Court kings, Hall Kings, and Rookie Kings inserts could be chromed with on-card parallel autos. It could be a really well-done, huge debut of a product.

I don't see Optic taking over for Prizm basketball. Prizm has a 4 year head start and people are already paying LeBron James prices for the "Silver" Prizms or better. The Main stars of today have Prizm or Chrome cards already.

They'll be able to coexist just fine, I think. I mean Select and Prizm were able to exist at the same time before this popped up potentially.
EDIT: Ahh saw the Select 16-17 on Instagram again from a week ago, so I guess we'll have 3 optichrome brands for basketball this year?

Optic = Topps Finest
I was going to liken it to Chrome and Prizm to Finest, but may as well be the same thing.

I saw a lot of Optic FB opened. And I liked a lot of the football inserts and the product overall. Pretty ambitious.
Hope it does get made, too.
But, to be honest, I preferred Select over Prizm every day of the week, even though it doesn't hold the same value.
So if this somehow means eliminating Select, I'd be super salty.

It's coming. Somewhere in the March/April timeline. All I know right now! I hope the autos are on card like they were for football.

Select is still coming according to the Karl-Anthony Towns on-card auto previews on Instagram. Though, it's hard to find info about Optic OR Select for this year aside from the previews. I assume we'll get some blog posts / release dates soon?

I bought some football and this stuff is nice. I was immediately stoked for basketball to come out.
This stuff is more Topps chrome than Prizm is, plus on card autos. It could be huge in basketball. I can't wait to try and get a Westbrook rainbow started.

Totally with you on Select.

Came across these and I like the looks of everything. Distribution of the parallels though worries me a little. Also looks like we're getting sticker autos for Optic.

Don't get it twisted.
This is still a sticker dump for majority of the lower tier rookies and vets.
Only the top rookies had on-card in football. So it's definitely not like Topps Chrome in that respect.

Topps Chrome was always sticker autographs in basketball...

I have never been able to get excited about any set that is just the exact same cards from another set done with upgraded stock. I'm more interested in the completely new, on-card auto Select.

The sell sheet posted above is exclusively for retail. I think Hobby will be on card.

And almost always had at least some stickers in football as well. I think Optic football had 49 on card auto's and you usually get at least one per box.

I don't understand the hype for this at all, court kings poops on this IMO and select will lay it to waste

I was looking forward to this release but im on the fence now....the more I look at the base design its just meh imo....its exactly donruss just diff photo and its a refractor...and also the tiresome topps chrome talk is a turn off...feels like im being programmed...feels like everyone wants you to think its topps chrome in the making to make sure it has value....didn't donruss used this exact design for baseball back in 80's or 90's? just let optics be optics...prizm already took the title and rightfully so....if we're going to call every shining refractors the next topps chrome....the only release that truly resemble topps chrome is hoops that came out this year and last year...the artist proof refractorish base design looks very very close to topps chrome...to me at least....
So if Prizm is like Topps Chrome wouldn't that make Select like Topps Finest and therefore Donruss and Donruss Optic be the equivalent of Bowman and Bowman Chrome?
I don't collect baseball or football,
so, is there any difference on the technique between Optic and Prizm? Or just same technique with different brand?

Fairly certain they are all just 'optichrome' technology. Select, Optic, and Prizm.

I would put Optic more like Topps Chrome since its a version of the base set.
Select could be like a Finest. Especially because it has different tiers.
Prizm could be like a Bowmans Best or Pristine or something since its it's own design.
Even though Prizm is it's own kinda thing, it's hard to compare, but Optic will definitely be more like Chrome now.

Basketball should be similar

Select and Prizm base have mostly a plain silver in the background
Optic base will be more colorful
And I like this newer attraction

I am afraid that distributor will "hold back" on these products, to make the price higher (like prizm) to "make up" the loss for all other products this year

Hobby is definitely coming. Sometime in March or early April. They were working on the checklist when I talked to the Panini Basketball Manager.
