The pre-sale begins January 31st. Is anyone else going to pre-order? I believe it ships Mid-Feb.
I just found out about the game last season and I feel like I've wasted a good portion of life not playing. I have eight or so teams from 2015 and I have some other teams I think are fun including: '93 White Sox, '12 Cards, '93 Cubs, '94 Indians, '77 Reds, '27 Cubs, '13 Red Sox, '12 Rangers, and '04 Cubs, '05 A's, and maybe some others.
I don't recreate seasons like many people seems to do. I've been choosing four AL teams and four NL teams and play 20 game seasons with some interleague play. I keep fairly detailed statistics for each season and have a spreadsheet to keep each players season/lifetime statistics. I would have eaten this up as a kid!!
My 10-year old plays too. He is hung up on the '15 Cubs. Right now him and I are the midst of a best of twenty-one game season with the '93 CUbs vs the '15 Cubs. He's whooping my butt!! I think it's pretty cool that he's developing knowledge of the older players. He said Rick Wilkins and Mark Grace were the favorites from that team. Glenallen Hill had a monster season in very limited play. He was a weak outfielder but I start him as much as I can to offset the awesome '15 Cubs.
I'm sure some of you guys play, or used too. I think the cards would be cool to get autographed. I've bought card sleeves with that reason. I'm going to take them to games this season.

I was always an APBA player but had friends that were into Stratomatic for many years. I am shocked they still make the game..

They started a version you can play on the computer. You can buy seasons or you can play the current season and the player's card changes every game according to how they are doing in real-life. I read today that they are starting to have an app on phone as well. I enjoy the cards and dice but may consider phone app.

the first season i played was in 1981, been playing it on and off ever since. They have an online version of the game where you draft and manage a team but the computer (Hal) plays all the games. I occasionally participate in that but it isnt as much fun as playing the games yourself.
If they ever forgo the stupid CDROM way of playing over computers with other and move the game fully online I would return to playing the game full time. It isnt difficult to do, they just dont seem interested in doing it. Pretty sad if you ask me.

My father in law got me into APBA about 4 years ago. He has been playing for 30-40 years and is part of one of the longest running leagues (APBL) that still play their games using the cards and dice.
He pulled me into a computer league (BoS) that was just starting up at the time; that has since brought me into another long running league (MWBL) When I first started in there, Jonathan Mayo actually had been running a team for a number of years. Got to email and chat with him a few times, which was pretty cool.
They are a lot of fun to play; never played Strat-o-matic, but I've heard it has the same basic principles of APBA
Enjoy!

Enjoy!I was in a similar APBA cards/dice league several years back. I really enjoyed the hands-on game play feel. For those that moved on to the computer version, does it still have the same "feel" as the dice version? My initial reaction is that something would be lost in translation.

It doesn't have the same "excitement" of rolling the dice, checking the cards and looking up the results.
But it's still fun to play on the computer; game play is a lot faster obviously.
It was actually really fun this past fall; my father in-law's team and my team made it to the "World Series" of our league. So we set up a weekend that he would make the drive over and we played face-to-face. I got swept in 4 games lol

I started playing APBA probably 1978? How I wish there was a league close by. To be actually able to play face to face like the old neighborhood days would be awesome!

I am an avid SOM player and a commissioner of a league that has been around for over 20 years. I mostly play the computer game, but every once in awhile I will pull out the Cards & Dice. I probably won't preorder, but I usually place my order the same day the game is released. I usually replay the Reds, so I am not really looking forward to playing the 2016 season except for Joey Votto. 1949 will be fun as my favorite replays tend to be from the 30s-50s. I will order the 2016 cards, still undecided on the 1949 cards and the Heroes of Baseball II cards.
