View Full Version : Is the current market over-saturated with Kris Bryant cards?

I know I might get crucified for even asking, but I feel like the hype is over-hyped. He is all over so many products of late.

Since 2013, he has over 3,000 cards according to Beckett. O can't remember such mass production of a single player in such short amount of time.

However, I don't think that this trend will stop anytime soon. Do you think that the amount of KB autographs in products (especially in Transcendent) devalue is autograph because they are so plentiful?

I agree, too much Bryant. Every product contains auto's...isn't that oversaturating the supply?

Get used to it. With each passing year there will be more innovative releases, with lots of autos of everybody. Thankfully MLB RCs are only one year!

With Transcendent his 1/1 values are going to be worthless for a while (ok so not entirely worthless, but drastically less than what they could be). This could have a domino effect on all his other prices except his rookie/draft autos as well.

Topps has found themselves a face to their company and are currently driving him into the ground. A little moderation wouldn't hurt.

Who cares? The Cubs just won their first World Series in over 100 years. He is the face of the team

Let's not act like anyone is going to be bummed out opening packs and seeing a Bryant auto pop out

Edit: I can see it being annoying if you're trying to PC him

:)!:)!:)!

I'd rather have the best player be available than impossible. It's good for everybody.

It's certainly going to devalue it

However, from strictly a collector standpoint I'm not complaining at all. It makes it cheaper and more possible for me to have a cool card.

Agree with the above! I pull a Bryant in newer stuff and I'm happy but most of my collection only deals with his rookies and they can't make anymore of those.

Transcendent was the most expensive product ever and the only way to get those cards were being crazy rich or joining a group break (including the 65th cards from Vegas). I think these cards will dry up completely and eventually go up in value (especially if Bryant wins multiple MVPs and Cubs become a dynasty). Pretty neat to see so many baseball fans buying cards again and a ton of this is due to the Cubs winning World Series and Mr. Bryant.

This. I really only focus on rookie cards, unless it's a really cool card I want in my PC.

I'm counting on it. The flood of auto's in EVERY product is slowly driving the prices down to a range that I am willing to pay. I'll wait another six to nine months and then buy a Bryant auto for my collection. Crank up the printing presses, it's 1989 all over again! hahaha!

IMO, Kris Bryant cards celebrating "specific game moments" will be more sought after than the old school style of collecting. You can already see it in the prices of topps now kris bryant cards (and others). "Moments" are the new style of collecting and are not oversaturated like that traditional Kris Bryant cards that are out there.

The 2nd Golden Age has already begun for sure. This time it isn't necessarily about volume but more so of "on demand" type of cards.

It's oversaturated in general for all players, even for retired players being inserted into new releases. The companies will keep doing it because we keep paying for it.

I'd rather have autos of Bryant than an auto of some scrub, that's how I look at it. Does it bring down secondary market values? Sure. But as a Cubs fan and Cubs collector I don't see any problem with that

The market is over-saturated, period.

I think you could insert any players name in here and the answer would be yes.

Another example of absurdity.

Schwarber has played in 71 (regular) season games.

Beckett says he has over 2,000 cards. Is this level of production what collectors want?

This is why you stick to either first card produced or first auto or if you are a traditionalist first RC logo auto. They can never re-produce those.

As for the logomen and stuff like that, I think we are gonna see a lot of em so I don't see a huge need to get em into a collection but someone may want ALL logomen or something like that. Never know, each collector is different.

But yes, there are a lot of Bryant cards out there.

Bryant and Harper. The card companies just can't contain themselves...

It's one company at this point. If you don't put Bryant in an autograph set that isn't themed for retirees only, you're missing a huge player. Why would Topps not put him in?

It's not just Bryant.....

This over saturation of all these "high end" patch/and or auto cards is going to be just like the junk wax era IMO.... instead people will look back and think of it as the junk "high end" era. :coffee:

Rookie cards for life. Especially rookie cards of guys that get called up kind of late and are only in a few products.

I think this is where topps now will become ever more popular.....guy comes up...smacks a homer in his first game, etc etc......wham....true rookie card....and the only one encapsulating the moment

I like the Bryant is in every product, but in most auto sets he seems to be SSP. I think that's the best way to do it. As mentioned, he's a huge draw for most collectors, so to have him not in the set at all makes no sense for Topps.

Maybe this was remarked on in the Checklist thread, maybe not:

Kris Bryant earns yet another cool honor, this time from Topps (http://sports.yahoo.com/news/kris-bryant-earns-yet-another-cool-honor-this-time-from-topps-010200514.html)

The 'honor' is being card #1

Good to see baseball cards in the news though.

Problem is they keep the presses rolling, because they see the $ signs. They are doing another high end release call Diamond cards I believe, you know it will be full of Bryant.
They are gearing to the group breakers for the high dollar cases because they now they can sell them to all the big breakers. Just like Transcendent!!
