View Full Version : BGS: Questionable Authenticity: WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I got an email from BGS yesterday with my latest grades. Accept for one card, very disappointing. What the heck does questionable authenticity mean? Fake? Altered?(I thought they slabbed still if the card was altered), or just too good to be true and you guys don't really know what you're doing. I have no intentions on throwing BGS under the bus but I definitely got screwed this go around. I know a few months back during a group grading send-off guru had this on one of his Pujols rookies. Guru, if you read this, please help me figure out the meaning. If anyone else can help, please do so!

Just my opinion, but it sounds like they couldn't decide one way or another whether or not it was authentic, so instead of labeling it one of the two, they labeled it questionable. Sounds like you might have to get a 2nd opinion from PSA, SGC, etc.
I'd be curious to know what would happen if it was resubmitted to BGS in a couple of months....
Good luck!

that does stink. I would try PSA, or like the above poster said try re submitting it in a couple months.

BGS will not grade the card if they question certain characteristics of it. They typically stick a note on the back of the card explaining why they felt it to be fake/trimmed/etc.
I got this Griffey back a few months ago, I was pretty disappointed too. Just shredded the card so it would not ever be sold again.
Questionable authenticity means the card is fake.
The Pujols card I had they said had been trimmed.

:mad:The problem is that a Marino RC, Elway RC, and Rice RC were traded for this Jordan RC. I'm so pissed right now.

If that is all you had to trade for the Jordan than it is probably fake.

Ya, I agree. That's like maybe $100 in SV? The deal was too good to be true my man.

Not sure who you traded with but I'd be pestering them INSTANTANEOUSLY until you can settle this issue. BTW...I had this happen about 3 years ago with a Gretzky rookie. It was thrown in a lot I bought, so I figured it was fake, but gave it a shot anyway...

I didn't make the trade. The two Jordans were sent in by me for a friend.

this is why i would never buy/trade for a Jordan rookie unless it's graded.

I wouldn't bother. "Questionable authenticity" is BGS's polite way of saying "you have a friggin' fake and are screwed'. Chances are, if a card is worthy enough to be faked, then it's probably a big money card and all the grading services who actually give a damn about their business will be highly schooled in looking for it.
