I know there is a lot of love and value on rare 90s basketball cards but I noticed there isn't the same love or value for baseball and football. I'm not just referring to the superstars but in overall outlook i.e. Denis Rodman's will sell for more than Jeter or Griffey of the same series. Is this many because there isn't the global market in the sports or simply baseball and football collectors don't value them because there is no ink or material on the cards? I grew up collecting in the mid to the late 90s and stopped when I got to high school as my interest diverted in a different direction wither that be actually playing sports or girls lol. Just trying to gain some knowledge and other people's perspective of the hobby in general.

I've wondered this too. Baseball and football seems to be strictly about rookies. Almost nothing else seems to hold much value.
Side note: nice auctions you have going on. Have quite a few on my watch list. :)!

Global market is definitely a part of it.
There has been multiple basketball players that have dominated here in Australia since thr 90s. Football and Baseball just doesn't have that appeal.
Asia is such a huge market also. I could personally only name a few Football players from the 90s.

A lot of the BIG money is coming from China and they drive the prices up and up and up, I don't think any one over there cares much about baseball and even less about NFL stuff.

Yea, I think the simple but accurate answer is that basketball is more global than football and baseball.
I've actually been thinking about getting into some of the nicer 90s sets in those more "domestic" sports. Some of them are even better looking than basketball's designs. Some really amazing looking stuff that I'm pretty sure - like you said - can be had for cheap.

international maybe to simple an answer. baseball and football have much bigger presses and collectors , so they roll the presses much more. i think baseball also has more pc collectors.

the big boom for basketball and the nba was in the 90's. with MJ's rise to super stardom, the dream team capturing the hearts of the world, well designed and visually pleasing inserts started becoming big, etc. the 90's is highly desired among the worlds basketball collectors.

I complete agree with what you are saying but baseball for the most part had the same series inserts as basketball did and I think there are more baseball card collectors than basketball yet they don't receive the high value on them.

not worldwide. the nba is more popular globally then mlb and nfl. im not familiar with the baseball market but i assume they covet vintage and rookies the most. the 90's were the most popular for basketball card collecting and i think thats why you see the prices are up for 90's stuff.

I've tried to get into 90s baseball inserts. Prices are great compared to basketball but the problem is twofold. My team (KC) was dreadful, nationally unpopular and lacking in stars during the 90s. Many of the insert sets don't have any Royals. Second, the 90s were the steroid era and TBH I have little desire to collect most of the era's big stars. I mean outside of Griffen, Rickey, Gwynn, Ripken and Jeter almost every other major star of that Era is tainted by roids.

I think this definately has alot to do with it
90s baseball cards also suffer from an oversaturation of product which began in the 90s with just too much product to collect, which I think has diminished its collectibility. The football season is also relatively short compared to basketball and not even close to basketball in terms of global popularity. Many of those 90s Basketball players are household names in China, especially Kobe & MJ of course
To me the popularity of 90s basketball cards was the end result of a "perfect storm" in terms of the cards made at that time (the first premium rookie cards, the first game used/auto cards, the first serial numbered cards, the first insert cards, the first refractors, etc) and the great players of that time being very popular from a hobby standpoint - MJ, Kobe, Penny, Duncan, Iverson, Hill, etc
The new card designs and players to play the game during the 90s was simultaneously revolutionary. What happened during that time will likely not be repeated in the same way again
