View Full Version : Beckett RCR Jackpot - Should I attempt fate?

My LCS had Beckett on site this weekend for some RCR, so I decided to get a few cards graded that I thought were borderline BGS-slab-worthy cards.
One of them as this 2014-15 Panini Prizm Joel Embiid Red Pulsar Auto. Now, as you can see from the scan below, the auto is off the sticker and maybe even a touch smudged. I figured the card would be a 9.5, but I honestly thought the auto would be a 8 or a 9.
Should I push it and send it off for slabbing with the hopes it still remains a 10 auto - or just leave as is?

Pretty sure that when you get it slabbed they will not keep it a 10 auto.
Unless they considered his name which is fully on the sticker a 10....and not the JR thingie that ran off???

Thinking the same thing! Is it me or is it also smudged on the lower part of the "JR" section?

Just submit as a 9.5/10 minimum requirement...so they will keep as is in the RCR holder worst case scenario

How did the grader give the cut off a 10 pretty irresponsible

His actual signature appears to be all "on sticker" - the little loop just stays on there.
Do we know if BGS factors in extras when grading the signature? Perhaps that other part doesn't count?
Honest question as I don't know... it just seems like the only logical reason.

This...was there only one grader at the event and did you get his name?

2 or 3 graders were there. I think the LCS said they graded around 2000 cards that day, so I am sure the QC started to dwindle.

If it's for your collection do what you want. If it's for resale list it as as. Do not slab.

RCR grades are not guaranteed the second you walk away with the card. While Most of the time, it comes back with the same grade as the RCR, I can't see that getting a 10 auto grade. If selling, I would probably sell as is.

RCR grades are not guaranteed. Sell the card as/is in the RCR holder with the 9.5 10 auto grade. Will sell for much more than a slabbed BGS 9.5 with 8 autograph grade, or ungraded if you took it out of the RCR holder. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Honestly though, if I'm buying something like this, I'm thinking It may be tampered with because I have no idea how that auto gets a 10. Now, I don't know of all the parameters Beckett sets up with RCR to ensure that frauds are few and far between, but that would be one of the first thought thru my head.
Smudge and off-card? Just doesn't look right.

I think if you would have sent back with the grader right then ,they guarantee that grade.not sure if that's true but I have heard that
As others have already mentioned, I think the only sensible explanation with this is that they only include the normal auto in the grade and don't take into account any additional inscriptions etc.

Ok, so when they handed you the card you knew exactly what you had turned in, did you question the grade right there or did you just think "wow, I need to make a BO thread"? I would have immediately questioned this grade right at the point where they passed the card across the table or however you picked it up. You paid for a service, it doesn't matter how many they graded, you obviously did not receive what you paid for.

The sad thing IMO is it matters. How fake is the grade if this conversation is actually happening. It's clearly not a clean auto but the conversation is centered around how to get a 10 rating even though the auto is smudged. Everyone agrees there are issues yet people are discussing how to best hide the issues. Cool.

I received exactly what I paid for. A professional grader to evaluate my cards and give their expert opinion of the overall condition of the card.
Now, mistakes and oversights are apart of any human process. However, I am not going to argue over my grades, good or bad, based on their opinion and expertise.
I applaud your attempt to White Knight yourself in this situation.
