I would love to hear opinions or just something anecdotal, on whether or not keeping your buyer requirements tight, is worth it in the long run. For example, I currently don't allow buyers who:
Don't have a PayPal account
Have received 2 Unpaid Item strike(s) within 6 Month(s)
Have a primary shipping address in a location I don't ship to
Have 4 Policy Violation report(s) within 6 Month(s)
Have a feedback score of -2 or lower
Anyway, I checked my Buyer Requirements Activity Log and I see that like 110 bids have been blocked since the beginning of the year. Here is how they broke down:
33 - Buyers without a PayPal account
77 - Too many Unpaid Item strikes
The former group just doesn't make sense to me. I'm happy to have the efficiencies of paypal and be somewhat protected. In short, I don't want to deal trips to the bank or cash or bitcoins or whatever. Many of those were zero or low FB bidders anyway.
Where I get concerned that I might be losing money is with the second group. A lot of them have a ton of FB at with 100% FB rating. BUT, they've got those pesky strikes. So I ask, is it worth it to ease back on the unpaid item strike restriction setting?
I look forward to hearing some thoughts or suggestions. Thanks for the read.

i love this one
Have a feedback score of -2 or lower
Buyers cant get negatives... -2 is impossible.. sell 2 things and dont ship i guess.. lol
I wish they would change it from -2 to +10
i would use it that one...

I just found my log.. had no idea you could see this..
since dec 23.. which is 6 weeks.. i had 108 people blocked.. half of them no paypal account.. wow
Since i only take paypal.. that would be 50 non payments.. i highly recommend setting your buyer requirements...

Exactly :D
I wish you could see how many strikes some of these jokers have. I mean, some might have exactly 2 and maybe there were some extenuating circumstances...? Like a death in the family, a trip to the hospital, an unexpected bill...my kid bought a bunch of stuff with my account :roll eyes:
I guess I'll keep them tight for now.

Think gonna end up relaxing ours this weekend. Over 800 bids lost is a lot of money and stuff happens and we can still get our fees and relist if needed.

wow, had NO idea about this... going back through the past few months, i see a bunch of items i sold for less than i was hoping and see blocked bids from earlier listings when i had higher starting bids. so at first i'm like damn, i cost myself money with my tight restrictions, but then i told myself, a) how would i get paid from those without PayPal (it's the easiest option i have available to me) b) for those with unpaid strikes, what's the guarantee that i'm the guy who gets paid when they didn't pay on multiple recent purchases?
so in the end, i'm ok with it to avoid the hassles. and quite frankly, it gives me a little joy to think their actions finally come back to bite them when they try to bid and are denied. i try to picture them getting all pissy in front of their computer when they can't bid on something they want and realize it's because they took strikes on other items. serves em right.
edit: also, i see a lot of mine are multiple bid attempts on the same item from the same person, usually 2 attempts, but a couple are up to 4. it's like they were like, "must be some glitch," and when they try again, they realize they suck. love it.
double edit: i also see a couple of new-ish buyers had been blocked because of not having a PayPal account, and cross referencing their join dates, i can see they won the items. so they were blocked, signed up for paypal, and won and paid for the items, and no problems for either side. it works both ways because those guys played by the rules and were rewarded for it. and now they probably can buy more stuff from other sellers too. win win there!

Wish you could block echecks as well. I hate those things. Had more bounce on me than go through.

Have received 2 Unpaid Item strike(s) within 6 Month(s)
I have this option checked. When I sold a lot of stuff in Nov/Dec I ended up with 4 pages of people blocked for too many strikes. Some even had 5 digit feedback. I only had 2 non payers out of 201 auctions and both were new low feedback members.

I don't block no Paypal account. I'm fine taking a mailed payment, and have never had a bounced paper check. I have had bounced echecks through paypal a few times.
I do block 2 unpaid item strikes. I don't want to take off that restriction, since I don't want to deal with non-payers. However, I did have a buyer one time who messaged me saying he was blocked. He told me he was wanting to buy one of my items. I added him to the blocked buyer exception list and told him to try to buy the item again. He bought and paid immediately. So for me in the case of a buyer messaging me, I made an exception and it worked. I just would not want to remove that restriction altogether.
