View Full Version : Would YOU leave Neg Feedback? WWYD?

Going to try to keep this short, just looking for some opinions and see if anyone mentions something I haven't thought about.
This just recently happened on eBay, going to paraphrase our convo to keep it short and to the important details.
Won an auction for a lot of cards for a pretty good price. Paid immediately after auction ended.
Had the following conversation with the seller about 24 hours after payment was made:
SELLER: Bad news, was packing up cards and spilled coffee all over them. Can replace cards with similar or refund.
ME: Ok, were all cards damaged or just some?
SELLER: Most cards damaged, again, I can put together another lot or refund
ME: Not interested in another lot, can you send me pics of the damaged cards?
SELLER: Cards were thrown in garbage, can put together a similar lot
ME: Would just like a pic of the damaged cards to verify your story
SELLER: Cards thrown in garbage, garbage picked up this morning, I have nothing to verify what I am telling you
ME: Sounds unlikely that all those events took place. Perhaps you wanted to sell for more. Send full refund.
SELLER: Look, I told you what happened, threw cards in garbage and garbage was picked up. Besides what am I supposed to do put soaked cards on scanner and risk damaging scanner?
(Apparently when he gets together with family they all jump on the scanner to take pics since he owns no other camera or phone to take pics)

My initial gut reaction is that he was hoping to sell for more OR he got an offer from someone else after bidding ended. I'm on the fence between leaving negative feedback or just blocking the guy and being done with it. I am on the fence because I guess it is POSSIBLE all those events took place and his garbage was conveniently picked up so he could not provide proof to his claims, but I highly doubt it.
12 month feedback ratings is 580 positive, 5 neutral, 28 negative - most of the negative claims: damaged cards, didn't send, rude, backed out of deal, etc.
Seeing negative feedback claiming backed out of deal and didn't send makes me lean towards leaving negative feedback. This really isn't a huge deal to me since I am not losing any money (full refund has already been issued), just looking to start a conversation and broaden my viewpoints when dealing with characters on eBay/forums.

What is your take/ What would you do? Thanks!

Even with the negative feedback he already has, you have no definitive proof that he is lying. Sounds like he communicated well and had no issue refunding you your money. It stinks for sure, but I personally wouldn't leave a negative feedback.

With the sketchy past, I would leave Neg Feedback. Your gut feeling of getting a higher offer after the fact is probably correct.

As a seller...the very first thing I would have done is take a pic or send coffee cards regardless and immediate refund.

As far as a neg goes...? Thats a personal decision. Sellers track record?

Story is definitely sketchy. Since you cant prove it, its tough to say. for sure block the user, or at the very least do not every buy from again.

I would either do neutral or not leave feedback at all.

100% a scam story. 100 Negative. people like that piss me off so much. at least just tell the truth and say. i decided to sell for more or i want to keep the cards instead of making up bs stories. i can at least respect the truth. but NO ONE spills coffee on cards that are worth money and throws them in the garbage cause they still have some value even damaged. especially they should be protected in cases and top loaders anyway. then immediately throws them out and they take garbage same day with no pics or proof of this happening. with no pics its obvious it didnt happen.

Definitely Neg that guy. Completely fabricated story. Risk damaging the scanner? Take a dang picture with your phone of a couple of damaged cards.

I don't even see how its possible to have that many negative transactions in a year. He has a 5% negative rate per transaction. Its pretty pathetic.

Negative.

As far as the comment on the negative, you should tell him to keep his coffee away from his cards to prevent these sort of things from happening in the future.

This isn't a court of law. The seller backed out of the deal and is lying about it. You don't have to have tangible evidence. Repeated feedback for the exact same thing is proof enough. This is based on your experience with the seller which is shady and should be documented as a negative experience because it was. It will go right along with the other 28 the seller has.

I'd leave negative, If I sold anything and spilled on them while I was packing for shipping I'd take pictures immediately and send with and apologize for what happened. Refund the money and send what ever cards were decent when the cards dried off.

Take my refund, leave no feedback, move on.

Not sure why people want to spend so much time and energy on crap like this. Get your money back and dont buy from seller again. Simply.

I've never left a negative feedback in thousands of transactions. That said, absolutely leave a negative here. That's exactly the purpose of the feedback system, to warn other buyers.

If the guy had a 99%+ feedback rating, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. However, his history tells you all you need to know.

If you have to think about leaving a negative chances are you should leave a negative. In this case, leave a negative. You know his story is BS as you can see in all of the similar negative feedback left.

Based off sellers track record, neg and block. Who is seller so I can do the same?

the more negs the lower his % goes and hopefully ebay kicks him off or suspends or limits the account and yes the excuse is way off the BS radar

Bingo. Neg the crap out of him. Once is a mistake, 28 times is what they call a pattern. I hate that Ebay allows this crap to continue.

Refund/Neg./Move on. I just did this over a $9 card. Bought a card, seller posts a tracking# that never registered. Asked seller about it. He said he would look into it. No card received. No replay to me and eBay and I should get my refund from eBay today or tomorrow.

I have not done EBay in over 10 years but back in the day I would and could contact other bidders to notify them of my experience. It would work. Today, not sure if that can be done. Looks as if this seller hasn't learned and yet still receives bids ? ? Is another negative going to change the sellers behavior ?

How often do card collectors leave cards out of a top loader on their desk?

Chrisharber72

I'd leave a negetive.. seems like this guy just makes a lot of deals..follows thru with ones he likes and backs out of the ones he decides he doesn't like even tho he's Already agreed. My cards are never in a position where anything could be spilled on them..

How the hell is he still allowed to sell on Ebay with 28 negs?! Def 1000000% leave a neg. they ban you for a lot less these days no idea how he can still sell

Agreed..gotta leave a negative here. Any of us that sell on eBay have had stuff not sell for really what we were looking to get out of it. It happens. As a seller, eat your loss (if that's the case) and move on. Don't make up some bs excuse about it.
