It's exciting even though he's a boring fighter.
Nice easy title shot for him.

he's a boring fighter.

Why?

Because he uses specific strategy? Because he breaks down his opponents weakness and uses it against them? Because he has specific tactics in order to win? Because he doesn't take stupid risks?

I know moronic MMA fanboys, who stupidly boo in the first 30 seconds of fights, like watching idiots throwing haymakers at each other but it's Mixed Martial Arts not Mixed Street Arts.

I understand where you are coming from but I look at it like this. Until someone proves they can handle his ground game, which no one has come close, then that is the best strategy for him to use. Why take chances when you dont have to?

Exactly. I am not sure where he is at as far as being fight ready but there is no way he is going to try and slug it out with Bisping. He gets Bisping down, which he will, its all over.

I really dont care what happens. I just want to see him fight McGregor.

you can use strategy and specific tactics and not be boring.... those aren't mutually exclusive. Demian maia's recent ascension is one example. Frankie edgar uses a lot of strategy ..goes 5 rounds all the time but he wasn't "boring" either...

the gsp mid way thru his consecutive title defenses was like jon fitch but more skilled.

both great fighters but they are boring....

GSP had koshcheck wounded, scared with only one eye.... and he STILLL sat there and jabbed his eye... for 5 rounds.... yes great strategy, he was schooling him... and thats what you should do... but that's boring...

he's a point fighter.... but hey ... some people like that kind of stuff and thats cool. but I know a lot of long time MMA fans (fans that know mma started before UFC) that thought he was getting boring...

100% agree. Matt Serra scared GSP with that flash knockout. GSP from that point on rarely took chances. Even when he was completely dominating a fight (which happened often), he wouldn't take a chance to finish them because of that Serra loss. It may be smart, but he's being paid to entertain people by fighting. GSP was my favorite fighter for a long time. But he lost me as a fan just like he did many others because of his fearful style of fighting.

Please. Fearful? Give me a break.

Nonsense.

GSP is boring...its a fact....

doesnt make anyone a "dumb fanboy" who states this....

cuz GSP was not always this way!!!!

Pre-Serra GSP was amazing....he was dynamic, exciting, awesome to watch...well rounded to the max and did it all....

then he got Knocked the hell out by an inferior fighter....and was never the same!!!

he couldnt handle the idea of losing...so instead he did find what he was better at and just utilized it 100% no matter how one-sided and seemingly no matter how easily it seemed it would be for him to finish his opponent....

he just stopped trying to actually finish fights...

his career is so clear...

starts with 5 stoppages...gets to UFC...decision...then tko...then 1st loss to matt hughes...wasnt ready...

stoppage, decision, stoppage, stoppage, split dec over BJ, dominates Hughes in the rematch..........then KO'd badly by Serra

post-serra:

Koscheck decision where it wasnt a great fight...just was much better basically...out-wrestled the wrestler

Submits Matt Hughes in their 3rd fight...his biggest rival...think he had enough competitive fire to go for it here...

Decision against Fitch where he just dismantled him but never really came close to stopping him...

Penn 2...technically a stoppage but it was more just win by exhaustion...just smothered BJ...didnt really come close there either...(last non-5-round fight)

then comes the string of decisions..

T.Alves...just takedown after takedown...points points points...
D.Hardy...i remember he had couple crazy submissions locked but still wasnt able to finish...same as alves...just takedown and repeat...
Koscheck 2: the jab-fest!! Kos cant even see his opponent and GSP never even tried for the finish...he had his plan and even tho he was obliterating him he just cruised to a decision...
Shields...same thing...his advantage was on feet...so he just out-jabbed him and cruised instead of ever remotely going for anything...
Condit...advantage wrestling....condit nullified...
Diaz...blah...see above...
Hendricks...many think JH won...most damage GSP probably ever took in a fight...wins split dec.

you call it being smart and having great strategy and all that...which it absolutely is...but it is also boring...those other guys couldnt stop him out-jabbing him or out-wrestling them...so thats on them...but the point is that he fought insanely safe post-serra...he could have easily finished half of those guys...but he was not interested in every going outside of the very strict gameplan that he had set...

even if he could get the KO or submission...he wouldnt rush in for a KO...or risk giving up position to go for mount in fear of losing the top position in a scramble...

the fact that he was very dynamic in his early career is the reason that stating he is boring/safe/doesnt take risks is absolutely true...you can see just by looking at his career path...

When you're afraid to go for the finish, that's fearful in my book. He was afraid of getting one-punched again. Not calling him a coward, but his style incorporated his fear of getting KO'd.

I don't get how he's afraid to finish...when he actually finished the guy that knocked him out. And he finished 3 of the next 5 fights after getting knocked out.

What happened with Georges? I have no idea. I think the first Kos and Fitch decisions are totally defensible - those guys, specially Fitch, were beasts at that point. Even the Alves one I get, Thiago was really dangerous back then.

After that? Maybe he just wanted to prove a point. Or he realized he was not on his prime anymore and was more careful. I don't know. But the guy won 31 (!!!) STRAIGHT rounds in championship fights before Shields took a couple. That is one amazing feat that I don't think will ever be repeated.

I'd rather watch Joanna fight than GSP.

But GSP McGregor fight would be good.
Or stephan Thompson

Weight classes just ruin mma.

Excitement wise. Should only have 3. Light, middle, heavy

I think GSP would beat McGregor pretty easily.... via all kinds of great positioning.

Take-down, full guard, half guard... side mount....few sub attempts, little gnp but not all out, just few elbows, pepper fists just enough for the fight to not be stood up... repeat, every round ... and winning a decision.

I'd like to see the eagle vs GSP..... see who can out grapple who.

Seems pretty odd to me for GSP to come back at all honestly. He's been gone for like 4 years and then is given an instant title shot at a higher weight class in his return fight. I'm a GSP and I don't think he deserves this fight at all and it screws over Romero and Jacare and which is also terrible. I hate this super fight crap that's going on in the UFC and skipping over deserving contenders.

I agree that GSP would crush Mcgregor. I would like to see Maia and GSP myself. I personally dont think there is a fighter in the world, except maybe Maia who can handle GSP on the ground or wrestling. GSPs ground game is so dominant that no one has been able to figure it out yet. Good luck to anyone trying to avoid a GSP takedown.

Yea, that must be frustrating for active fighters who earned a shot to get looked over. Its all about the money my man. With Conor gone Gsp is the only star that will bring huge dollars in.
