So I've had this card since the 90s and got it graded last year. I for sure thought I would get it back labeled missing print/foil or something but no it came back as is. I've tried to find another example of it but never had any luck. Anybody have any input on this?

By the way regardless of value this is one of my all time favorite card, love the image they used for this! Wish I had the funds when the 1/1 buyback sold last year, if my memory serves me right I think it went for $5k+.

I'm sure some Kobe super collector would pay a nice premium for that. Grade certainly doesn't hurt either.

Is the one on the left maybe a base non parallel card & the one with foil is a parallel?

Nupe.

Never saw one of these with missing foil, but it's def something that happens from time to time across different years and sets.

Anyone have another example from this specific set?

Can't see I've ever seen that from these either. Maybe it was some sort of sample? I'm assuming the backs are identical though so that's unlikely. I'm surprised it wasn't graded as an error but yeah it could fetch a bit of a premium from a Kobe supercollector.

It's just an error, a foil-less stamp of the card. Upper deck didn't release any parallels for the 60-card UD3 set. The selling point of the set was that it was made up of three totally different types of cards; along with 20 all-etch cards like the Kobe pictured above, there were 20 hardwood cards and 20 acetate cards that came with a front peel, like Finest.

It would have to be noted on the BGS order form for the label to indicate that it was a "missing foil" issue or something of that sort. BGS only indicates the larger, more commonly known errors, like the 92-93 Upper Deck MJ In Your Face error.

Its just a slip in production when they stamp the blue foil on etched cards. A common error while producing cards. Its not a parallel. There were no parallel in the set.

Might carry a premium to a hardcore collector but not a premium because the card is rare in terms of actual proper print run. Its rare because it was a mishap. I remember the old days when they used to have corrected and uncorrected errors. Those were rare and in demand because they would reprint and produce the card corrected, throw them into 2nd wave of release and also call back any unopened packs with errors. Thats what made them so limited back in the day.

Thanks for everybody's input but was hopping somebody had a little more info. If anybody comes across another one without the foil please do share. Thanks

definitely just a case of them not stamping the foil. you can see all the writing on the left card they just didn't stamp the blue foil. Some Kobe pc collector I'm sure would pay a slight premium for it
